I took my first real ride this past week after having owned my K1100LT for almost a year. Sad, but true... I'd driven it a maximum of 60 miles in any given direction before heading home prior to my trip this past Thursday through Saturday.

My brother and his family had plans for a weekend in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and asked me to join them. I was off Wednesday through Saturday so I decided to give it a whirl. The most direct route to Steamboat is via the Poudre Canyon, but Trail Ridge Road is a pretty unique experience so I decided to go the long way...

Trail Ridge Road is the "highest continuous motorway in the United States, with more than eight miles lying above 11,000' and a maximum elevation of 12,183'. " Even on Thursday afternoon, the traffic was crazy. I followed some guy in a Lincoln at the breakneck speed of 18mph. I was convinced his brakes would burst into flames at any moment. I could really smell them as I stared at his bumper for the better part of an hour. Oh well, I was sightseeing, too, and didn't expect to make very good time.

Enough with the preamble, here are some pics. Sorry I don't have any moving pics. I don't have the moving-picture-taker accessory mounted on the rear of my bike like Johnnie... not sure I could afford one! Smile

I didn't take any pictures on the way home. I was too busy having fun. I was in a bigger hurry to get home because I had a few things to do before heading out of town again this morning. I ended up taking the quick way home through Walden, Cameron Pass, Poudre Canyon, Ft. Collins and then to Loveland. The outbound trip took me 5 hours with a few stops. Coming home was 3 hrs, 5 min to cover 167 miles with no stops. I had never conducted any high-speed motobricking in the past, but certainly did yesterday in the Walden Valley(North Park). I think I saw 6 cars in 40 miles! I always slowed down to very near posted speed limits when I passed people. I didn't want to freak anyone out (or get a big speeding ticket)!

It'd been a long time since I'd driven the Poudre Canyon (northwest of Ft. Collins). It was MUCH more scenic than I remembered. Aside from the wow factor of the above-treeline thing on Trail Ridge, the Poudre Canyon is actually a better ride.

Sorry for the long post. I just really had a good time and wanted to share it with somebody...

Best regards,

Rod

Rod - thank you for the motoride report and the pictures - I'll add those rides to my list of places I hope to see.

No apology needed for the post - as ride reports go, it's fairly short!

Very nice looking motobrick you have there - with very low mileage!

Hi, Scott,
Cook dinner?? Is that all?? I'm on dial-up. The first time I saw some of the HD I pictures was today. I'm visiting my daughter and she has much faster service than I. BTW, I'm planning to cook spaghetti at Hungry Lobsta. Should be a good time had by all!

It's funny that you said that. All I could think of is that I can't wait 'til I have some free time to re-paint all my Mystic Red parts because they're looking a little faded. Should be able to get them done this winter if/when I have time to build a little paint booth inside my workshop.

For the record, I'm 2-3 DECADES away from being an oldgeezer! I've always been boring beyond my years... What I was really looking for was a Goldwing when I cam upon my 1100LT. The LT seemed a little "sportier" and more appropriate for my young bachelor image. Smile

I've got a little office work to do this week for my jobs #2 and #3, but I'm already scheming to take a day between Wednesday and Saturday and do a little day-trip somewhere. We'll see, I suppose.
