Hi,
Looks like I have the "clutch boot" gearbox leak. As I'm waiting to get it sorted, I was wondering - provided I keep an eye on the oil level - will it be OK to use for short trips, or is it likely to p**s oil all over my rear tyre and have me off.

No, it's not going to suddenly let go and dump all over your tire. It'll just annoy you until you get it changed.
