Hi All,

Final post of the morning. As I mentioned in my previous post im off to tour France, Spain & Portugal on my 95 LT at the end of this month, I estimate the trip is going to be around 3000 miles. I bought my bike 2 weeks ago from an old guy who had it standing for quite a while. Since picking it up I have done the following:
Engine oil & filter change.
Gearbox oil change.
Final drive oil change.
Front & Rear brake pads changed.

I also have an in-tank fuel filter & a new air filter ready to go on.

My questions are;
what else should I do to prep the bike?
do K1100's have any common issues that I might catch me out?
what spares would you reccomend taking?

If it has been sitting it would be an excellent time to flush the brake system and change the coolant. The brake flush really is a must, I would do that asap. If you buy a vacuum bleeder it is quite an easy task. The coolant is fortunately quite easy too - think about spending a few extra Euro and getting the BMW brand coolant, and the crush washers are specific for the application (copper.) If you have time you could also do the fork oil.

As for the spares, I would recommend bringing along a spare fuel filter and pick up a spare oil fill cap. They only cost about $5 and having a spare in your tail cowl will save you many hours of aggravation should you ever top off your oil and forget to put the cap back in and lose it. Other than the other type of stuff you should carry around like a spare bulb kit and a flat tire repair kit I think you should be good to go! These bikes really are bulletproof.

Cheers for that, as luck would have it I did the front when I changed the pads.

Add a spare clutch cable to your packing as well.

How many miles/kms on it?

The first law of spares is that anything you take with you will not fail, something else will...
