I have a 1992 K100RS. Is there anything electrical I can plug into my puny 32 amp alternator without overloading? I would like to add some PIAA (or equivalent) running lights, use a 100 watt light bulb, put some more lights on the back for braking and run a radar detector.
Bike originally had ABS but the previous owner removed it, does that free up some juice?
Thanks for any insight.

Have you thought about swapping out the alternator?
If you add LEDs at the back, you can pretty much add as many as you like.
As far as the lights, I think you're pushing it there. Seems like there's a fairly recent thread about adding lighting to a lower output alternator. _________________ Jim

Thanks Jim,
I did a search for just that but perhaps I didn't use the right terms. I'll try a search again.
And yes, I have thought about a 50 amp alternator.

Running a 90/100 H4 and a pair of 35W PIAA fog lights with heated grips I was OK on my 93 LT. When I upgraded to 55W fog lights it killed the battery. Based on that I'd guess you can add something under 150W before you've max'd out the 32A alternator.
I upgraded my alternator to the 50 amp model. You just need to hook the blue wire up to the small post on the 50A alternator and then run a good-sized cable from the large post on the alternator to the positive battery terminal..
Adding LEDs to the rear lighting (like a Lite-Nlazer 59011) adds a very minimal current draw. A radar detctor draws very little juice as well. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
