Excellent! Thanks John. Downloaded an' lookin' good.
I'm about to do my Very Own First Maintenance Job on this machine.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen - I am going to change the engine oil and filter.
I know.. a challenge for one such as myself whose idea of home mechanics is moving the screen up and down to check it's not seized and, at a push, kicking the rear tyre so see if it's attached. But I have the filter and even the Special Tool and 'we have the technology'.
If I'm not back in 3 days, send a search party. _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

Hi there!
I'm back after successfully changing my oil and filter. Not only that but I am inordinately proud of the fact that I also changed my rear brake pads!
The bike only stops on its front brake now but that's not the point.
What are you supposed to do with old oil these days? When I was a lad we just to put it down the nearest drain.. Guess that's why the world is falling to bits now. _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

Steve,
Nice work on your bike. I like to do my own maintenance because it gives me a chance to look everything over and become more familiar with it for when things go wrong.
In the USA, places that sell new oil are supposed to accept used oil. Recycle centers should accept it also. But in the UK _________________ John & Cathy

I can put up to two gallons of used oil out my with other recylcing that's picked up every two weeks. I don't even have to leave the property anymore to get rid of old oil.
I used to own a 76 Buick Estate Wagon with a 455 and mock wood paneling. A buddy and I bought it for $650 to tow our boat since both of us had sports cars that couldn't pull a 3,500 pound boat. The Buick went through oil at a pretty good clip since the engine had 100k on it. When I changed the oil in my RX-7, I'd just keep the old oil and use it to keep the Buick topped off. Now THAT's recycling. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Well done, Steve. The rear pads will take a 100 miles or so to bed in.
As for the oil, I save the old "can" & put old oil in that until it's full. Then save it until we next go to the recycling site, where they have a BIG vat. You'll probably have to surf t'internet to find your nearest recycling site.

Good job, Steve!
And the next, change the transmission main shaft in the middle of nowhere, like north Canada, or Scotland Highlands....
Isn't, Gwen?!?!

Our local landfill will accept oil at no charge, so long as you take it to them.
Some of our local mechanical shops also will take the oil to burn in their special recycled oil burning furnace. _________________ Ride safe.

Places like AutoZone & Advance Auto are said to be taking your used oil.
I take mine to my local landfill, it has a recycle center and take used oil & used antifreeze as well as cans, paper & bottles, etc.

Any car dealer has to take your oil.
My first oil change (circa 1985) on a K was a complete disaster as I only had a gallon milk container....and it made a huge mess all over!
