I have replaced the Hydro unit (which had a Fault code 7)on my 96RS with a used one and now I am getting a Fault code 8 which I cannot reset. What cause the external influence to prohibit this reset? I am assuming that speed sensor gap is not a problem. Is the new used Hydro unit also bad?

Well, I don't think I would assume the sensor gap is correct - I'd get the feeler gauge out of the tool kit and check the gap - if you have a toolkit with a feeler gauge...

I don't know what the fault codes mean, but if the lights are flashing, the first suspect is low voltage/weak battery.

What did it come from? The same unit was used on R bikes. If it came from an R then it needs to be reprogrammed by a dealer.

It came from a K1100LT and I was told it was good to go for my 96RS.

Take it back and get another one or $$$ back - there is no way for the seller to say for sure he sold you a good unit. Or put tape over the lights.

The following is from a previous post of mine on same subject --

I'm not sure I would pay much if buy at all used ABS bits.

Being in a serviceable condition will depend on how long the unit has been open to enviroment (brake fluid/moisture/corrosion thing) or if P/O ever changed brake fluid.

No way of testing other than installing and going for a ride. Not a bad way if you are doing the work yourself - not good if paying a shop to do it.

If you are having ABS faults and your battery is not the problem you may want to think about plumbing around the ABS system and riding without. You won't miss it.
