I was bringing the right fork bottom bolt up to the specified torque and was almost there when it felt like something let go. It didn't feel like it feels when a bolt breaks, it felt like the cartridge started turning. I put the wheel on and bounced it a few times.
It's not leaking as of now but haven't ridden yet. Is this normal? _________________ Jim

Sorry for the bump but I'm somewhat worried about this and hope someone can shed light on it. Rode today and everything felt normal. _________________ Jim

Hi, Jim,
I wouldn't worry about it. Note: I've never broken the bolt free on a K1100. HOWEVER. it is "common knowledge" that breaking it loose is a bitch because the cartridge will turn. I would guess this is what happened to you - the cartridge began to turn. That's why removing it is recommended with an air wrench.

Thanks Phil. I was hoping that was it. I had little stomach for taking it apart again. It seems like a screwy system to be torquing a screw to a hole that can rotate. Guess I'll buy an impact wrench before I have to get in there again. _________________ Jim
