I am in the middle of assembling my K1100Rs back together after resealing the timing chain cover and doing some pre-season inspections. Found my left grip heater isn't working and I ohmed it out and it is open so that is a job for next winter.

Now let me get this straight:

The coolant sensor on top forward of the engine is the sensor for the Motronics?

The two sensors on the oil/coolant pump are the oil pressure sensor (large sensor) for the low oil pressure idiot light and the other is the coolant sensor (small sensor) for the coolant gauge?

The book only shows the oil pressure sensor and a drain plug in the parts fiche.

I am labeling (I don't have a life Laughing ) my wiring so it is quick to know what wire is what and I got to looking at the two sensors on the oil/coolant pump and I think I had then mislabeled.

Hi, Moondog,
It's true the fiche only shows the drain plug on the oil/water pump page. If you go to the page where the instruments (fuel gauge and coolant temperature gauge) are shown, the temperature sending unit, which also serves as the coolant drain plug, is shown. You find these things by necessity, like when you wring off the sending unit (and can inspect the spring, etc. in its innards) by tightening it too much. New ones are available and, while not prohibitively expensive, are NOT cheap!

The two wires that go down to the bottom of the pump are pretty fool proof. If you hook them up backwards and start the engine, the oil pressure idiot light will faintly glow as the bike warms up. And the temp gauge will go full scale when you turn on the key, then go to back down to cold when the engine fires. Then you know that the two wires need to be reversed. No harm done.

I lets just say I know- don't ask why......

Thanks Folks. And JohnI won't ask why. But I will ask how you made out with your timing chain cover?

Rode with the family yesterday but that will have to be it until I address both leaks.

Right now the left fork must be pretty far down on oil- from the amount that is coming out and how bad the fork feels over the typical northern New Enland KRAP roads. The timing cover is minor in comparison- but needs to be resealed.

Should have time in the next two weeks to get everything sorted out.

How did you make out with your final connections. I envy you being in the Burlington area. Picked up our son there on Friday PM and it was WARM.

Good luck.

John

Connections went fine. I was labeling the wiring under the tank and dawned on me that I had some wiring mislabeled. I did change the connector on one wire. Looked kind of ratty. Now I am trying to mount some lights on the forks and trying to get some brackets. I might end up making some up. I mounted some fog lights on the upper fairing under the headlight.

And as for being warm? Not today. Never got above fourty. But it was nice on Saturday. My roomie took her her bike to work. She was in seventh heaven.
