|
|
I have a '93 LT with a radio that's getting juice to it. The power light comes on and that is about it. Nothing more. If it has power, would that indicate that it doesn't need to have its code re-entered? If recoding might help. how do I enter the radio code?
Thanks, Brent
By the way, are the rear speakers wireless. There are no wires going to the top box. B. _________________ '93 K1100 LT

You have to have power in order to enter the code. Here is a paste of the succinct directions provided by Rusty at Max BMW:
| Quote: | To enter your code:
Turn on the ignition.
Turn on the radio.
Enter the code by depressing the appropriately numbered preset buttons. After the last code number is entered the radio will activate.
If you make a mistake while entering the code, press an hold the band (BAND) switch until the code numbers disappear from the display, then enter the correct code. |
A lot has been said on this forum about replacing the radio with something more modern. After going through the (in my case) difficult procedure of retrieving a lost code, I like having the original radio. I use a cassette tape adapter to plug in an mp3 player and I'm all set. some adapters work wirelessly on fm frequency as well. _________________ Jim

quadrabrick, the rear speakers are not wireless, unless someone's done an adaptation but there's a cylindrical multiplug thing which can be detached when you want to remove the top box and then replaced - it slots in under the left hand bottom of the tb. Seems silly but maybe it's not currently plugged in..?
Apart from the code there's a sequence of buttons which gets the radio going after being removed - maybe someone can recall what that sequence is, I can't right now but I think it's mentioned in the radio handbook. I'll try and have a look when I have a moment and get back. _________________ Cheers, Steve H _______________________________________

The code is the only thing you need if the radio is working. Just enter the code and it should work right away. If you don't have the code any dealer should be able to help. _________________ Jim

I just got done replacing my radio with this, a Pioneer DEH-m3900mp.
The OEM radio was working fine except the #1 memory button stopped working and of course my code has the number one in it so once I cut power when I was working on the bike I couldn't get it going again. This new radio has an auxillary in so I can plug in my MP3 player. Now I'm just waiting for the remote to come in. The installation was pretty easy. _________________ Rich

For those with stock units....write the code on the side of the radio...the grey part with a sharpie. I also put it on my cell phone under "radio".
I highly doubt that a cassette radio code is of high importance to thieves. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

If you get a Pioneer that uses the CDMR-70 marine remote then you can just keep the cover over the radio and mount the waterproof remote on the handlebars where the stock one used to be.

I pulled apart the face of the radio to get to the buttons to see if I could get the #1 button working and I didn't see any real waterproofing on the radio. As Drake says just keep the cover closed and get the remote. I found a used remote CD-MR80D on e-bay that was cheap so I am going to put that in.
Drake, did you do anything to waterproof the back of the remote?

I have the 4 numbers from an owner way back, but not the right order. I'll try a dealer. I'm thinking more now of a wireless intercom with my mp3 player an dhelmet speakers. Thanks for the help.

They couldn't get mine on the first try but some research told me to ask them to try "BMW Technical" If you know the 4 digits I think there's only 24 combinations. Might be faster than the dealer. _________________ Jim

Wouldn't it be 4X4X4X4=256? I wasn't there that day, but 24 seems low. _________________ Current Bikes

Rich,
Does the DEH-m3900mp have a jack to plug ear buds into? I want to update my radio but would still like to be able plug it into my Star-Com system.

Hey Jeff,
The 3900 doesn't have a headphone jack only and AUX in. My bike has the seperate headphone jacks that came with the original radio so I plug my bluetooth transmiter into that to listen. You should be able to find a headphone jack that turns off the speakers when you plug in your headphones and you can wire that in line with your speakers when you swap out the radio. Radio Shack should have a headphone jack like that. _________________ Rich

Are the Pioneer remotes wired to the head unit or are they infrared wireless? _________________ Gary

The Pioneer marine remotes are hard-wired and use a 1/8" stereo jack - more reliable and no batteries to deal with.
On mine, I pulled it apart and solder in some wires that would go all of the way to the head unit instead of of having a plug and jack along the handlebars. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I have a Pioneer DEH-P5000UB on order along with the Cd-Mr70 Marine remote. I found out that you can get a patch cable that will go from the RCA pre-outs on the back of the head to a 3.5mm Jack. It will be a plug it in and go deal. Excited about that.
So, what is the deal on the install? Did you guys use any of the BMW wire or did you put in all new? What about mounting the head? Does it just slide in where the old one came out or were brackets fabricated?
Thanks,

I just took out the old DIN bracket from the old radio and slid the new bracket in and slid the radio in. It's been working fine. I cut the plugs off the old radio and put them on the new radio so I could just plug into the existing BMW plugs. _________________ Rich
