Morning all,
93 KRS with 34K miles. I am doing routine maintenance. I pulled the final drive easily and splines still had decent lube and were nice and crisp.
However, I had no success pulling the driveshaft, even with wrapping the shaft and using channel locks. Any secrets? Or just keep wiggling and pulling?

Steve,
It takes a pretty good pull to overcome that steel ring that holds the shaft in place.
Here is the method I use: With the drive line housing supported horizontally, clamp a Vise Grip pliers onto the drive shaft with enough gap between the pliers jaws to pass a large screw driver through. The pliers must be lenghtwise with the shaft. Then with the screw driver through the pliers and against the driveline housing you have a lever and a fulcrum. If you give the screw driver handle a good bump with the heel of your hand the shaft should pop loose. Before you try to pop the driveline loose, wrap the part of the screwdriver shaft that will bear against the housing with tape to avoid scarring the mating surface. Also, you should scratch a mark on the shaft so you can get it lined up when you put it back in. I wish I could send a picture of the screwdriver and pliers set up.
Good luck,

Take the swing arm off, sit behind the bike, put your feet on the tranny and give it a good yank wit hyour hands. BE CAREFUL not to push the bike forward off of the centerstand with your feet. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I use a strap from the centerstand forward to a solid point on the bike when ever I have an end off the bike to prevent the cneterstand from collapsing.
I have baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad luck that way and liek Drake says, I'd wind up pushing the thing over and bashing something up.
That's not good. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!
