|
|
For quite a long time now, I have been having intermittent problems with the front brake 'sticking on' from rest, ie, after being in the garage for a week or so.
So, after stripping the front calipers for the hundredth time yesterday, and having the master cylinder operating rod screwed out, I once again tried the operation of the lever, back and forwards. Three times it was fine, but the fourth time there was resistance in returning. This was happening roughly twice in about ten goes.
Removing the lever holding pin, and checking, all seemed fine, but as I attempted to put it back, the pin stuck........
This time, I removed the fiber (plastic?) split 'spacer' from the pin, and behind it was rust....This was forcing the spacer outwards, and it had worn into a slight oblong. Cleaned out the rust, filed off the 'oblong', lubricated, and re-assembled. The difference was marked, and what before I had thought of as a 'free' lever movement in itself had been stiff! Result, I can now set the master cylinder operating pin 'to the book', and the brake light switch works every time.
Just thought to pass this on........
