I just tried to start my '93 k1100. I ran it a month ago. It's filled with premium gas and fuel stabilizer. It's on a tender as well. It turns over fine and fast but won't start. When I parked it, it always started within, I'd say, 2 seconds or less. What I do notice is that when I turn the ignition on, before engaging the starter, there is none of the usual sound of the pump coming to life or pumping up to pressure, whatever that usual sound is. The tank is full, so I put my ear to the side of it. Still, no sound from the pump when I turn the key. From reading my Clymer, I'm guessing it could be the pump, the pump relay or the pressure regulator. Any advice on my next move? Fuses looked like they were fine.
Thanks, Brent

Hello!
I would add - fuel pump connector. 4 wires under right side cover, clean, put dielectric grease and check again.

Jim, mucho thanks. I won't say I feel stupid, as a relative newbie. But, I thought 'YES!" when you mentiones it. I've caught that myself before, but after 3 months I guess it was time for a stupid moment again. I moved the bike last night to make some more room in the carport. Of course, after getting it off the centre stand, I flicked out the sidestand. From here on, possibly due to the freezing temperature outside....mind went numb! It just now started in half a sec. Maybe I'll look into that sidestand switch deactivation this spring. I owe you a cold one sir!
Thanks, Brent

What a great feeling when a perceived problem turns out to be nothing at all.

After being the last one to leave the gas station several times, a couple twists of baling wire is all it took to "bypass" that switch.

hey Brent - no problem! I figured it was either the kill switch or the side stand - having used both tricks on myself numerous times Rolling Eyes

bin there done that Very Happy the side stand got me too Laughing I even pulled the fuel pump and tested it and put it back in before the guy that gave me the bike said and i quote " is it on The side stand???" the bike sat for so long that the clucth/pressure was froze together as one so I had it on the center stand while doing all the test to get her running. once i got her running I put her on the side stand "not Knowing anything about the switch" and it would not start ,,very pissed I was..but yet another lesson learned Smile And I still have alot to learn..I am so glad that I have MY BMW K1100RS would not want any other at this time Very Happy

Brent,

Had a couple of similar situations that were caused by the sidestand switch. One most memorable being a tight, low speed turn when the engine just died.

It did turn out to to be the ss switch. It is now bypassed- BUT

I hardly ever use the ss. Once when I did, I forgot about it and rode about 1/2 mile with it down. Scared the crap out of me- if I had countersteered into a quick lefthander.................ouch.
