Unfortunately, it has been a rough year for many of us. But I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing another Hungry Mother outing or something similiar in 2009. Any thoughts? _________________ Dom |

depending on the date, I'd be interested... I already have one trip planned to the left coast - I can't do another trip out for the West Coast get together. It's been worse than rough... _________________ Jim

I'd be interested as well. The only weekend I can't do it is that same weekend of May 16th that we did last year. That is our 17th anniversary and my daughter has a dance recital (that I missed last year). I was granted a one time pass last year, but no more, I know where my bread is buttered!
It would be awesome to see Ted again, especially on two wheels!
I second the no pizza rule, I'd love to check out the park restaurant for at least one big dinner, the other meals can be at the other local places, and they weren't half bad.
It was a bit chilly last time (not bad though), what about the following weekend, or later?
I have to get a new rear shock and a front tire before then. Those mountain twisties kicked my butt last year! _________________ Steve

I'd be interested......if it were on the East coast. I can't swing a West coast trip next year.
We have a lot of east coasters...we should be able to swing something. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I could swing 1 trip next year. I was planning on the west coast to Drakes place, but next year isn't hear yet, so I'm open at this point, I could go either direction.
Agree with Steve, a little later would be nicer riding weather, maybe less rain. _________________ Ride safe.

What does everyone think of Memorial Day weekend?
I figure the weather would be warmer and easier for people to get off of work?
I am open to any dates and/or thoughts? _________________ Dom |

Traffic out that way wouldn't be that bad, it's not the beach! OTG, this is a small state park out in the sticks, not a major destination. It might be a little busy with locals, but nothing too crazy. Especially if we could sneak up there on Thursday or Friday.
Those mountain roads were the most challenging roads I've ever ridden in my life (not saying much). I think I gained the equalivant of 5 years of riding experience here at the coast.
That weekend would be fine by me. My birthday is the 24th, so that would be an extra cool present! _________________ Steve

Looks like that lodge goes Sat-Sat, wonder what the rate is? Split up enough (up to 15) it might not be that bad, but it would mean we'd have to be out on Sat, which might not work for some folks, but if any of us wanted to go there earlier in the week, it would be available. _________________ Steve

I'm not sure I could do Memorial wkd as that's usually H.S. graduation weekend and I have 1 graduating this year.
But that's just me.
Y'all can do as you please. I will check the schedule further to make sure. _________________ Ride safe.

Awesome
As SkDonlan has mentioned traffic will not be a problem in any area within 100 miles of Hungry Mother.
I am open to any dates, locations, ideas, anything.
One thing that stinks with Hungry Mother, is that they charge more for cabins from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In addition, they charge more for anyone outside of Virgina making the reservation
Something I would have liked to have changed from last year is our group riding. I failed to factor in that everyone is not as fast as Abreeze and Rydor. And some guys were tired from longer rides in and some guys just wanted to marvel at the landscape. So I think two riding groups would work better. Besides how can I keep up to the Poser Brick on my farm tractor
I am getting my map out tonight with a pot of coffee and plan on pondering the best possible date and location, maybe having a MOA, RA, ADV Rider Rally nearby with the same date. Or maybe, having it the same date as a nearby towns "Rib Cook Off Festival" or something like that. As Johnny O always says "Ya gotta eat," and the pizza didn't cut it _________________ Dom |

Several of us are Virginian's, myself, Shogs, Jim, so any one of us could make the reservations to save a few $$$.
Any other goings on in the area would be cool, especially an ADV rally.
Count me in the "not fast" group. I ride briskly, but not nearly at abreeze and rydors warp pace, although I have no problem with them taking off, that way they can take pics of the rest of us as we come in an hour later!
I too am open to any other dates, even into the summer, it's always cool in the mountains. _________________ Steve

Looks good guys!
For the record, I ride VERY fast.
But I don't see many people keeping up with Sean and his new Scoot. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Well, checked the calendar and Memorial is open but the following wknd(30/31) is graduation wknd so that's off limits for me.
I'd say that my riding skills have improved since my "twisties" education out there last year. And after riding an RS I can understand why I had troubles keeping up with my LT. _________________ Ride safe.

ok...
i knows all you geezers are busy and all... i also knows some of you geezers can make it to the hungry mother and to mr crabs neighborhood where psychotic waterfowl is known to lurk...
so... hungry mother... yous folks already know what the deal is there...
but... hungry dungeness... its a whole new deal... its gonna be at the psychotic waterfowls place in the seattle area on august 1st and august 2nd... but getting there and getting home is half of the adventure...
it can be an extended weekend for west coasters or a 1 to 2 week adventure for others depending where you are coming from and where you are going to...
for you east to west bounders it can include red lodge mt... beartooth scenic highway... chief joseph scenic highway... glacier national... lolo pass... cascades scenic highway... hurricane ridge... ending up at the psychotic waterfowls place...
dont want to be accused of hijacking a thread here at the worlds number 1 motobrick internet forum... so im gonna thinking about starting a proper thread about the hungry dungeness real soon...

Friends,
I have lots of emails and PM's about Hungry Mother II. Thanks for all the suggestions. Most want to camp, some want to hotel, a few thought the cabin worked out. Some liked Hungry Mother, others thought a new area each year. Time and dates were all over too, anywhere from early May to late June.
I enjoy over head cover and heat, but since more people preferrred to camp for various reasons, I may have to pull out a tent.
Most people wanted to move the date at least one week later then last year, in hopes of having better weather if we would stay in Western Virgina.
Only one person liked the idea of piggy-backing off another event, ie a MOA, RA, ADV Rider Rally. The suggestion was the Georgia, Mountian Rally in early May. I haven't been there in many years, I dont remember what the camping was like or the weather that time of year in Northern Georgia?
I 'll make this Sunday, January 18th, at 1800 hours Eastern Standard Time as the cut off and post the results, I am sure to offend some either way, _________________ Dom |
