If my calculations are correct I will have used 3/4 of a qt of oil in 734 miles. Sad

I do not have much smoke at all and certainly do not have loss of power.

What is the recommended maximum? Sad

Also, what do you folks use to calculate oil used? I have a starting mileage # on the 1st of the month and at the end of the month compare mileage vs oil used for that month. Short of measuring actual MLs I put in, I would imagine that would be pretty accurate.

What do you mean "used" to use? Question

Ride it like you stole it. Keep an eye on the sight glass. Don't worry, be happy.

As I've stated before, my K11s even tend to "hide" oil and put it back in when I'm not loooking.

I have one that uses around a quart every 1000 and the other one only used 1/2 quart every 1000.

Bottom line is oil is much cheaper than engine parts/repairs.

Next oil change you may want to try a different grade/brand of oil - and I am NOT starting another oil thread!!

I've been told that when accelerating after deceleration, that my brick emits a puff of smoke. Probably weak valve guide seals, although I think it's the design. I think it's always done this.

I just rode 1000 miles to the coast of South Carolina and back, I used 9/10th of a quart.

So even tho it no longer smokes, the oil usage is the same.

Now, let me throw a wrench in the mix... it's leaking oil so bad that the panniers, fender and undercarrage were splatter with oil when I got home. It is also leaving a quarter-size spot under it after being parked over night.

It looks like the sump pan gasket. I washed the underside again and will continue to monitor to identify the leak location. No matter, I won't do anything with it until the next oil change.

Which one? SW or BB? Shocked

The SW.

BB is wet on her bottom too Confused So, I'll be washing her up and watching to see if it's a leak or overflow from putting too much oil in it.

+1 on that puff comment...

I just figured it was the nature of the beast...

Besides, if it bothers my riding partners so much, then they can just
ride point & collect any "Fast Driving Awards"...

My '94 K1100RS (26k miles) consumes just slightly less. My bike doesn't "hide" oil and put it back. When it's gone, it's gone. Crying or Very sad

I agree, did a 2000 UK miles trip to France. After 3 days, about 600miles, put in a pint, on arrival home the level was still on the spot.

When i picked up my LT it used 3/4 of a litre in the 500 miles i did on the way home but hasnt used any in the last 1000 and im riding it harder now than when first picked up.
I was a bit worried at first but have just got in the habit of looking in the morning before rolling her out of the garage, not dropped at all.
Going to do an oil and filter change tomorrow (including flushing with cheapo dino as it looks a bit dirty) and change the antifreeze while im at it, will see what its like on fully synthetic!

Don't wish to start an "oil thread". All my K's have been happy on Halfords 15/40 Semi synth The one in the Purple Bottle. (BTW the engine wasn't designed for fully synth). Similarly, I wouldnt put semi synth in the Norton for the same reason. I do two oil changes to one filter change. General consensus seems to be, the more thrape you give it, the less oil is used.
Just my 2d (old pence)

PS do you use the GB BMW site? I, among others have been asked to edit my avatar as BMW are getting sensitive about unauthorised use of the Logo.

I carry a 20oz plastic Coke bottle of oil with me. Much less prone to leaking than a oil quart bottle. Easy to pour too.
