What do you guys think?
I figure the luggage alone is worth $500. No e-mail contact, local number only, can't be an overseas scam.....
Another BYK project bike?

I don't think it's a scam. I think the guy just has more than he can deal with - it doesn't start - and he's willing to pretty much walk away from it. Local number with no area code even.
If I was closer, I'd pick it up and part it out... _________________ Jim

Called the guy, seems genuine, he was given the bike, has run, but not for a few months. Only 60K on it. Bought a new starter relay and was hoping that was all, but was told it was the starter itself.
Didn't want to bother with parting it out, just wants a little cash to be rid of it.

Buy it before Duck or Shogs does.
Parts alone if you have the time/space are worth triple that. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Checked on E-bay, functioning used starter is only $75 +/-.
I'm thinking for maybe $300-400 could be a functioning old K as a touring complement to my RS.
If not, I could probably unload it for $2K if it were running decently, if not, parts would add up to that much easy, I do have some garage space. _________________ Steve

Sorry about that Steve. I've been looking for another bike to work on and when you put it up here I couldn't resist.

I appreciate the apology, may they only deduct a few Karma points.
But if you bring that K back to life and give it a good home, all will be forgiven. _________________ Steve

That's my plan. I'll have to see what is wrong with it. My conscience(wife) won't let me have two right now but I am working on that. _________________ Rich

BTW, I asked permission in PM and was given the OK prior to making an offer.
You know that, right?
Ral88, I'm going to call "Bad Form" on your part if you didn't discuss this with the OP prior to buying it out from under him.
That was not honorable if you did. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Of course I do, it was meant in jest.
Take it easy, jeez.
On a serious note, that type of purchase is for such a stupid price that the OP cannot really expect any type of fair play. In fact, in the time it took him to post the thread I am surprised it was not sold. That was an absolute "first come, first serve" type of deal that needed to be acted on, not posted about, unfortunately.
If that was around me I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I know times are tough, but who doesn't have 4-500 bucks lying around?
Would I have called or PMed the OP first?
Yes.
But that's just me.
While I don't expect everyone to do what I do, I certainly cannot fault RAL for acting while Skdon fretted the options.

Thanks for your POV Dave, I respect what you have to say,and will say no more on the matter.
I knew you did, but I didn't want there to be any question in anyone else's mind. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

By all means speak up woman, that's why they call this a discussion board.
I felt the exact same way you did Gwen, that "oh man that was a shitty thing to do" feeling.
But the fact is, Skdon should have bought the bike first and then made a thread about his 500$ purchase rather than weigh the options.
That good of a dead you would be crazy to think it would stick around more than a few minutes on CL. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I sincerely apologize. I did not mean to be underhanded or deceitful. From how I read the posts I thought it was still being thought about and not that "I am going to buy it" which obviously I thought wrong.
But in my own defense I would never put something on the forum if I was going to bid on or plan on buying because I know all of you folks look for the same kind of deals and can probably afford more than I can.
The $400 is a stetch for me financially with my son going to college next year every little bit counts.
I am going to pick it up today because that is the deal I made with the seller but to make this right Steve, I will sell it to you for the same price as I am getting it for. All you would have to do is pick it up from me if that will make things right.

Hey, no foul in my book.
What if someone outside the "brotherhood" had bought the bike??????
It was for sale in the open market and as such available to the first buyer that said - "yes I'll have it".
Whilst I feel sorry for the initiator that he has apparantly missed a bargain - life's a bitch.
Here in the UK we have the same thing on the Brit based forums, someone will procrastinate about buying or not - and someone else says - "yep, that's for me" and it's gone.
I've recently bought several bikes athat I could not afford, but when I weighed it up, they were just too good to pass up. I found the money, and by good fortune made the costs back on the stuff I sold off that I didn't want!
