Since I don't know how long I'll keep this bike, I'll be keeping the mods to a minimum. Mostly just lighting stuff in the interest of self-preservation.

1) Grip rubber: It had some cheesy ratty foam grips on it. I put some of my favorite ProGrip gel grips on it.

2) Real keys: The key on the left is the one that came with it. According to the locksmith, it's a bastardized Volvo blank. I just happened to have a shiny new OEM folding key blank so I went and got that and a better spare key cut for the bike.

3) Headlight: I used some old parts relays to "roll my own" headlight relays and beefed up the wiring. I'd forgotten how anemic the stock headlight was until my test ride the other evenig and riding home in the dark. Now I'm running a 90/100W ultrawhite Xenon bulb.

4) LED Parking Light; I had a 4-LED bulb for the LT parking light laying around from before I added the bank of LEDs. What the heck.

5) Cyclops Driving Light I added a relay and this 35W yellow driving light under the bow. Since I have to keep the 90W low beam aimed fairly low so as not to not blind others drivers at night, the bike needed something that would make it more visible during the day. I figure one solo 35W light will leave some amps for my heated jacket liner and heated grips.

6) No More Switch Blanks: Nothing offends me more that a switch blank - this bike had three. Now it has none:

1 - Switch for the cyclops driving light
2 - Hazard light switch from the last bike I parted
3 - New OEM heated grip switch. I installed the HG switch while I had the dash pad off - the Symtecs should be here from CA Sport Touring on Thursday.

7) Flip-A-Lever: I've got a spare one of those too. I'll put it on this bike until I sell it.

Cool Powerlet Socket: This bike was so bone stock it didn't even have a Powerlet socket. I used some stuff from an old wiring harness to fuse it in the empty #4 slot on the bike's fuse block. The coil cover with the powerlet socket on top came from my last parts bike.

9) License Plate Frame: License plates without frames offend me almost as much as switch blanks. I have one from Buckingham BMW.They used to be Seattle's BMW dealer before Ride Worst so, given the bike is an 85, it is "period appropriate."

In fact, Buckingham BMW is responsible for my becoming a K bike rider/addict. Many moons ago, circa 1987, I got a flyer in the mail from BMW. "Come ride a K75 and we'll give you some free BMW sunglasses." I figured "Why not?"

I test rode a brand new Marakesh Red K75S. I was in lust. I spent the next ten or so years daydreaming of buying a Marakesh Red K75S and riding the Pacific Coast. Then, when I was working in SF and had a fair amount of disposable income, I actually started looking for a K75S and pulled the trigger on a primo condition Marakesh Red K75S-ABS with a sweet Corbin seat, rode it down to LA and then rode it all of the way up the coast back to Seattle..... That was my first thing more than a day ride. The rest, as they say, is history.

Oh my.... what a gorgeous motobrick.... (too bad I killed it Crying or Very sad )

Which led to this(all on Ks):

Back to the topic, I still have to put the heated grips on and then I have a few more lighting mods for safety. After that, I'm probably not putting more effort or money into a bike I'll probably sell in the spring.

10) Did I mention that I upgraded the cluster backlighting to LEDs? Very Happy

Yea right, Duck, you've done more to that K in two weeks than I've done to mine in four years!

Congrats on the resurrection, someone will be very stoked with the blue plate special.

What do you figure she's worth? Just curious.

I'm going to be asking $2,600 - settle for $2,500. Heck, I may just ride it as my city bike until a major breakdown and then part it out.

I took it out running errands today because it wasn't raining. While riding it around I realized that I could probably crash the bike and still make money parting out post crash. (excluding hospital bills and damage to my riding gear.)
