|
|
Hi all,
Well, been a while since I was on here, as I was off road for a while. Anyhoo, got another K11LT, BUT... the wiring on the ignition switch has broken at the switch end, meaning its like having the ignition switch off when turning the bars.
Two things:
Is it possible to reattach (solder) the wires back on, ans
How do you get the damn thing off the ignition switch?
Any help appreciated. _________________ '93 K1100LTSE, ABS1 in Black 'Connie' |

4V ignition switch:
To get the wiring(3) off, there's a teency regular (not Phillips) screw(9) hidden under some red paint that you need to pick out first.
To get the whole assembly(2) out you need to drill out the security bolts.(4) I recommend drilling a small pilot hole first to keep the drill centered. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Done the job twice on two separate K11's.
Fault caused by BMW being too tight with the cable ties. Newer ones don't seem to do it.
I removed the white plaggy switch thing, tried to stretch the wires individually, any that lengthened had a new wire spliced & the plug end & soldered to the switch. Be quick with the iron as the switch contacts will melt into the plaggy otherwise.
The switch assy is /was available as a spare. _________________ Regards Tim,
