What needs replaced to keep this from leaking?

Is there a gasket that goes between the engine and clutch housing?

Some of the nuts are so rusty that the stud came out of the engine. Should I replace them or just screw them back in?

Thanks for your help.

Bellows on the clutch lever,
Oilseal behind the flywheel
& 8 NEW studs + Nuts unless the old ones will not come out easily.

$30 clutch lever boot - common failure over time. PITA to replace as the swing arm needs to be removed.

I don't worry about it when the studs come out - I just put them back in.

If you still have a stotck exhaust, check/tighten the header flange bolts everytime you change oil. If they get loose then the welds at the exhaust cllector can fail - and often do.

I'm in the middle of a spline lube so the swing arm is on it's way out.

For the trouble to remove the swing arm, I left it connected to the tranny and pulled them both as 1 when I did my spine lube.

I would get new studs for the ones that came out. Clean hole with tap and degreaser - install with locktite. Use anti-seize on threads before installing nuts.

Also replace the two rubber hangers on exhaust system (notice how heavy that assembly is) - and make sure no old exhaust gaskets are stuck on head.

Be careful if you are using an "Armstrong" torque wrench - aluminum gives up eaisly.

When I removed the drain plugs from the final drive and the transmission they had a lot of very fine metal shavings on them. Is this normal or should I break everything down to get a good look?

That's normal. When you see chunks, start to worry.

I noticed in that pic that you jacked up your bike by the bellhousing -a.k.a. intermediate housing. You're better off putting a board under the oil sump. Trust me.

It looked to me in the pic that he had the oil sump off already.

The sump cover is off. The bike is on it's center stand right now, but I have it hanging by a chain come-a-long.
