| do any of you know how much the k11rs cost when it was sold in 1993? i seem to remember it being about £9.5k. way out of my range. bikes were very expensive in the early 90s compared to now. £9.5k in present money would still buy you something special. if you manipulated that price in proportion to the rise in the retail price index, then it would translate into serious money. although, we might reflect, i couldn't buy you a new k11. after owning this bike for 5 years i still can't get over how excellently put together it is. i go and look at new bmws and i am afraid that they just don't look as good. |

According to this site, the price was 21,950 DM.

I agree that the new BMWs don't look as good. The styling has definitely waned in recent years. _________________ 2000 R1100RT

1996 K1100LTSE, all options except the alarm was about $17kUS, $21k and change OTD IIRC. I probably still have the deal I signed somewhere... _________________ M N B

I believe the MSRP for the K1100RS in 1993 was $13,999.00 here in the US. I have no idea what it may have cost in the UK. _________________ Paul - '93 K11/12RS (sold), 2002 R1100S BCP and '03 RC51 KOG 29 |

I have a PDF file of a review of the 1993 K1100RS from Rider Magazine. It lists "price as tested" at $14,676.
Funny quote:

I want some of what that author was smoking. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'd say I was pretty much on the mark with a recollection of $17k...
(and worth every penny!)
And thanks for reminding me, I need to pop the handlebar cover and resolder the connectors on the hazard switch as well as give it a little wd40 since it's kinda sticky from never being used.
Almost forgot, it's been one of those kinda weeks... _________________ M N B

if you want something that works better and lasts longer than WD40, I highly recommend: http://www.corrosionx.com/ also available here: http://pacificcorrosion.com/ I have no financial interest in either of these companies - just letting you know about a superior product... _________________ Jim

Once you have the switch out, you can use a small screwdriver to pop the back out of it and clean the contacts. Thye tend to get a bit corroded over the years. Keep the back of the switch pointed up when you open it - otherwise there's a little silver road and a spring that will fall out. You can also see how K bike switches work while you're in there. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

CorrosionX will remove the corrosion - no screwdriver and flying springs required... _________________ Jim

The best way to clean the contacts though is to actually clean them by taking the switch apart. Otherwise it's hit and miss as to whether the CorrosionX gets to the contacts unless you spray a ton in there and make a mess.
Taking the switch apart also allows you to get any dirt/dust out of there.
CorrosionX is good stuff though. I never bothered buying any though as WD40 is also a good contact cleaner which will lubricate the switch at the same time. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Be sure to cover your tank and other painted parts before spraying contact cleaner. _________________ 2000 R1100RT

CorrosionX will not damage painted parts - it doesn't cause corrosion, it fights corrosion. OK - I've put it out there a few times now. I'm done...
CorrosionX is NOT a solvent. _________________ Jim

Perhaps so, but as a general practice, anytime you work above painted parts they shoud be covered. Doesn't matter if you're spinning a wrench or spraying solvent. _________________ 2000 R1100RT

I find the Santa Cruz BMW website incredibly useful for looking up past models. Unfortunately even they dont go as far back as you need!
