|
|
| I have recently replaced both front brake calipers on my 94 K1100RS with second hand but better nick than the originals (I believe). I bled the caliper furthest from the reservoir (left) with no problem, however I could get nothing out of the right hand side. Took for a gentle spin and it was obvious only the left hand caliper was operating. Tried again to bleed the right one, this time with some success although it required a fair bit of pressure on the brake lever. However, the right hand caliper is still not operating. Any clues or hints before I re-bleed both sides? Thanks, Ivan. |

It could be a bad hose, if only the one side is working....sticky seals in the caliper would be another place. Apparently bad hoses can clog up, the hose after the 'splitter' going directly to the bad caliper would be suspect. _________________ 1997 K1100LT-SE

I concur with a bad hose, or at least a good restriction somewhere either at the splitter, in the hose, or at the banjo connection at the caliper.
Caliper piston seals would not prevent you from bleeding fluid. Piston seals would though prevent caliper operation. _________________ Ride safe.

The other thing you want to do when bleeding anABS K bike is to hang the calipers from the ceiling so that any air in the system goes to the caliper bleed valves and does not stay in the "hump" between the modulator and calipers. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

| Thanks for the tips, hanging the caliper sounds like a logical first step as I have no particular reason to suspect the hose (which worked with the old caliper) or caliper (which worked on the donor bike). Thanks all. |

That's for a "dry" system where you've replaced or removed brake lines and the lines will be initially filled with air. If you're just doing a normal bleeding to replace old fluid with new then it's usually not necessary. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

with the intent to bring my rims to be reshod, I'm having trouble separating the pads enough for clearance with 3 spoke rims on the right calliper, and the system was bled last fall. Where and how can I apply pressure to separate the pads, or do I remove the pins ? if so any solution I can soak the pins/pans in overnight ?
many thanks _________________ let's do it

read on a forum soaking in car soap solution, so I put soaked rags overnight, like a charm this AM.
Now to pull the rear tire off. _________________ let's do it

Once they're unbolted from the forks, you can just rotate the calipers to the sides on the rotors and that will push them apart enough to get them off. HOWEVER, do it fairly slowly though. If you rush it and use too much force then the pressure that it builds up in the brake system can force brake fluid past the seals in the master cylinder. DAHMIK _________________ 93 LT (x2)
