Do all the K1100's have the same front brake master cylinder?

As near as I can figure its a 20 mm cylinder.

I'm looking for something with a larger diameter to use on the sidecar rig, since its working two six piston calipers and a two piston caliper. (Sidecar brake is connected to the front brake) instead of the original two four piston calipers.

With the cylinder, switches, and throttle all in one unit its not as simple as on some other bikes.....

Has anyone mounted an aftermarket master cylinder?

Thanks

Mike

Hi, Mike,
Get in touch with Magura USA. Magura makes the master cylinders for our BMW's and may have information you can use.

Finally decided that I needed a different master cylinder so I ordered a Brembo 19 x 20.

I also wanted to keep the original BMW throttle and switch gear, which all mounts to the master cylinder, so some modifications were required.

Started with this, a perfectly fine BMW master cylinder (actually a leaky one from the junk box, not the one pictured.)

After two hack saw blades ended up with this

which gave me what I needed to hold the throttle and switch gear in place.

Final results

Not sure I like how I mounted the resevoir that may get changed, but it was getting late.

Haven't had time for a real test yet, other than up and done the gravel drive, so far so good, the first test locked up the front wheel and dug a trench in the gravel,,,,,,,,, it didn't do that before.

Will try it out some more later this week, I also mounted new front rubber (pilot 2) on the GTS, and the weather is real nice this week, going to put a few miles on it , the K will get back out when the weather isn't as nice.
