|
|
well now... we are working a weird schedule this week... so last night 1/2 the parking lot was taped off for seal coating...
the bug eye motobrick was in the untapped part...
upon return today i asked the folks when and where they wanted the motobrick... they said move it tomorrow...
well... i get a call this afternoon asking me to move it... upon arrival i find my left mirror had been knocked off... it was obvious that the seal coaters did it when they were blowing off the debris...
it appears that they knocked it off... lost 1 clip... and the top front cup that the clip goes on looks to be bent back... i think they tried to force it back on not knowing whats what...
they refused to accept responsibility and i didnt want to press it because i know these kind of folks will return to vandalize my heap...
i swapped out clips and tried to get the mirror to fit tight... no go... the top rear and bottom rear cups and clips fit the studs but with the top front cup bent back the clip wont catch the stud...
it looks cast or something brittle that will break off if i try to bend it back... which i was willing to accept... i couldnt get enough leverage to bend it back or break it off...
i already ordered new clips... a buck each... any ideas about getting the cup right...
thanks in advance...

I painted my mirrors black and found that if you remove the indicator lens the mirror will with a bit of persuasion come apart at the seam, should give you the room to work and see what you are doing then, A bit of heat MIGHT help the cast bend back without breaking.
Good luck with it.

Sorry to hear about the boo boo.
I knocked the mirror loose on my K100RS. I was able to get it on (mostly) by just pressing. However, one of the clips did not go on this way and the mirror would come off easily. More than once the electrical wire held the mirror while I frantically looked for a spot to pull over.
I kept working on it and found that if I *slid* one of clips onto the post the others pressed on fine. I was able to get all three clips attached this way. I don't recall which needed to be slid but think it was oriented different from the other two.
I also recall some trick in attaching the clips to the mirror side. There were little depressions in the clips that had to go into the plastic the right way. If the other clips are still in their places I think you can just match them.
Best of luck. _________________ '88 K100RS - for sale - pearl white and blue

Be careful with the clips. There's a little sandcast "nipple" that breaks off very easily. I ended up sticking a tiny piece of eraser to make up for the lost nipple space.

Hi
I forgot to mention, i also have made addition wire retaing straps for mine, got fed up having to replace the lens if they got knocked and fell off, even in the accident both mirrors were still connected to the bike when she was picked up.

Previous owner of my bike had the mirrors touched up, but you can tell they were knocked off a bit.
I got tired of just bumping them moving around the bike and having them let go & hang by the wire. Also had some teatheres made from fishing line on there, but when one got loose in rush hour traffic I had enough.
Had an old bungie net. Untied & chopped some of the material off. Removed the mirror & tied one end of this cord to the framing inside the mirror, then threaded the other end through the mounting plate and wrapped & tied it to the fairing frame work. You'll eed to remove the trim panel & gauge, but that's easy. They will now pull off the posts if you bang them hard enough, but stay right there, kind of at a skewed angle. Yes, if you drop the bike, they won't detach & skittle away like a bug and MAY get crunched, but I don't drop a bike often.
They have not moved since I've done this and and I've hit some rough bumps in the road too.
I don't worry about them getting loose in traffic anymore. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

I use steel fishing leader to prevent my mirrors from falling to the ground if knocked loose. You can install these in minutes.
