Has anyone ever seen this done before? With any kind of bike?

I thought I posted this - maybe not - I snatched it off ADV or IBMWR or MOA - I forget.

The tow bike is a K100 - not sure what's on the trailer.

I would say yes - definitely - if you have to tow a bike, you should tow it with a bike! Very Happy

I can't imagine trying to stop with the BMW or the FJR when pulling that weight.

A long time ago I towed a trailer with my pickup truck without hooking up the electric brakes. The trailer and the cargo was just about the same weight as my truck. When it came time to brake, the trailer PUSHED me down the road- much farther than normal braking distance.

Can't imagine doing the same with a two wheeled vehicle.

I snapped this pic in May. Papa bike and baby bike.

I tihnk emergency braking with a full-sized bike behind you would be very skeery and dangerous unless youve got some good brakes on the trailer intergrated into the lead bike's braking somehow or driven by hitch pressure.

But at least you don't lose any street cred for trailering this way. Very Happy

As a wise man once said, " there are a lot of trailers designed to be pulled by motorcycles but no motorcycles designed to pull trailers." Wink

I like this better. Very Happy

As for the pic in the first post, there are some serious safety issues.

1. The breaks on the FJR were not designed to stop 2 bikes + gear. That can be mostly managed with added more following distance.

2. The most serious issue is the angle of the trailer to the bike at the hitch.

Note there's an apex at the hitch. This angle will decrease (ie the hitch will gain height) as the pulling bike brakes. The harder the braking, the faster that angle will decrease because M/C braking is mainly on the front wheel.

You know, because it forces the nose of the bike to dive.

This will reduce rear wheel traction w/ the road.

When I designed my trailer, I kept this in mind. Note the straight line along the trailer tongue thru the hitch.
