The topic of motorcycle noise came up on the MOA forum. I posted a response since loud exhaust is a topic that I strongly oppose, and Bike Week NOISE here in NH, this year more than in the past, really annoyed me.
So I thought that I would wander over to the other side and see what they have to say/post about LOUD exhaust. My own observation is that most of the LOUD exhaust "systems" are connected to a certain brand of V-twin engine.
I wanted to read if they even had any thoughts on the subject, but in order to just read a H.O.G. forum, you must actually own a H-D. Imagine that! Registration must include a H-D VIN or as an associate member, a member's I.D.#.
Guess it keeps out the riff-raff or keeps the secret handshake secret.
Guess they really mean OWNER'S Group. _________________ John & Cathy

I have nothing against Harley owners in principle - it is just that most of them are arrogant, self-opinionated twats who have more money than taste, and can't ride to save their life.
Here in the UK, H-D riders seem to be obsessed with living the American dream - if you want it that much, then f**k off over there.
Why do 75% of UK H-D riders wear leather chaps and a bandana - the ultimate symbols of gayness
And don't get me started on exhaust pipes - slash cut straight through's should be banned from sale.
They piss everyone off - particularly other bikers, and attract every police patrol within 5 miles.
There, that feels better _________________ C1 200 (2001)

I thought I read somewhere hd was partly owned by the big H.....
Enough to upset one of them glory boys.....
I'm sure the VIN requirement is just to keep the dreamers from clogging up their "serious" site.... |

For every Harley with an aftermarket pipe I see just as many if not more (I'm in California) sportbikes with aftermarket pipes. The sportbike pipes tend to not be quite as loud, but they're still loud. The worst offenders are the enduro/dualsport/motards with the baffles removed. Those are as bad as a set of unrestricted short stacks on a Harley. _________________ M N B

I agree that ANY bike with an obnoxiously loud exhaust should be stopped and written up. I seem to live in H-D land- informal mental count tells me that V-twins probably make up 80-90% of the bikes I see and 9 out of 10 have "reworked" their exhaust.
Don't ANY loud exhaust riders know that it really pisses off the non-riding public?? _________________ John & Cathy

In the UK, Harleys are generally considered to be a motorcycle for people who don't like motorcycles.. Kind of out of place here, and usually the riders are treated with utter indifference, or given odd looks. _________________ 1992 K1100RS - Red and gold. |

Those HD riders aren't really HD people. Only a costume for the weekends. That get-up is all show.
Reminds me of 1968, first day of boot camp in the Army. All these big tough scary looking guys in line for that first haircut. Out comes all these common little wimps. _________________ Current Bikes
