Hello all. I'm brand new here with a recently pruchased '93 K1100 LT that I just picked up in Ottawa and rode on back to BC. My plastic rear rack is cracked and I'm wondering if anyone knows what this plastic is and what glue will bond to it?

There are no glues which wil give the sort of guaranteed repair you need - there is significant load on those rack members.
You need a physical repair method, which is inevitably a trade off between elegance and mechanical strength.

This happened me and I just replaced the part (somebody tried to lift the bike) - It comes in several sections. It does warn somewhere that there is a max load for the top box and it's not very great - 5 kg actually.

Mine broked because the load put by the passenger in hard accelerations on the top box.
Now I put my wife over the fuel tank, in front of me...just in case....

Pfft I have carried a ton of stuff on that rack, some of it way over 20lbs.

I went to an industrial plastics shop, where they did a chemical test and believe the plastic is either high density polyprolene or ethylene. They will give a go at welding it next time I'm there. If it fails, i can still due a mechanicla repair. I'll report how it goes.

The same thing happened to me on my k1100. I tried glueing with no luck.
Then I splinted it with thin aluminium but that broke, not thick enough.
Finaly I used 1/8" steel about 5" long and shaped to the contours of the plastic. Anchored it with stainless steel bolts on each side of the break and so far works great. I did both sides of the rack to give it an even look.

They couldn't weld it. Seems that it's a plastic blend and unless they can add plastic which is the same as the greatest percentage component, it won't bond. So, I picked up some 1/8 " aluminum and will bolt on a splint. A freind is getting some new glue whick sticks enert plastics. I will add some to the splinting job to see if that works, and report later.
