So I caught a bit of a women's cycling road race today. At least half the chase bikes used were something familiar to everyone here.
The venerable K1100LT.
That's right, baby. The Flying brick is doing the Olympics.

I saw some at the Tour de Frenchie too. When that guy rolled down the hill I also saw somebody riding a K75C as a chase bike. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

The '95 K75RT I have was originally bought for and modified to be a chase/camera bike for the Atlanta Olympics. There are still a few extra wires here and there and a couple of holes drilled into the footpeg mounts.

Here in Brazil ,the São Silvestre street runnig is always filmed from a K1100RS green metallic, for many, Many years!
Rede Globo, the television channel that transmitts the running has several K11 to that function.
Here can see the tail of one of the K11. The camera man goes backwards.

Daughter and I have been bicycle racing for quite a few years. So come time for the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana we try to see as much of the broadcasts possible. And K-LTs seem to be the motorcycle of choice for camera bikes, as well as officials, neutral support and others.
Can't imagine going down some of the European roads- rough in places, steep, narrow, fast and twisty and being a video camera person sitting BACKWARDS. Talk about having confidence in your rider! _________________ John & Cathy

This last Feb, I was headed from Lone Pine to Death Valley and came across a film crew doing a commercial. The CHP had the road blocked off when they needed to film near the road, but most of their filming was quite a ways off the road.
Not knowing this, I go blazing by, I see cops, I see an R1200GS and off the road a bit, I see an overturned van.
Wondering if a group ahead of us crashed or something, I whipped around. When I got a good look, I could see a beefy camera mount on the GS. I guess they like using them for off road camera work. I asked the guy on the GS was what up and he told me. I would have hung around, but I had to get movin' along to Death Valley, so off we went. _________________ M N B

I noticed that too, a slightly off white one seems to be used in several of the races, also looks like a Honda ST11XX as well.
You'd think with China such an up and comer in the motorcycle world, they'd have Chihese bikes.... Then again.... _________________ Steve

The reason they don't ride Chinese bikes for the Olympics is that they need something that's reliable. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Watch enough bicycle stage races and you won't believe how nuts the fans get. Kind of a rolling zoo.
Racers getting taken down by arms jutting out from the crowd, getting cut by those plastic hands that the fans wave, police (gendarmes) accidentally getting in the way during finish line sprints (45+ mph!), throwing water on riders- thinking that they are helping the racers, etc...
Then there are the rabid "anti-fans" who do their best to slow/discourage certain riders so that their favorite rider can improve their position. Most famous being many fans spitting on Lance Armstrong.
Riding a motorcycle that weighs 1/2+ ton loaded under all those conditions and in such tight situations must take a bunch of skill. _________________ John & Cathy

Looks like the fanatic fan with the flag ran right into the LT. Good thing he's opposite the side with the exhaust. _________________ 2000 R1100RT
