|
|
Ok most learned ones, I have a question for you.
I'm down to unbolting and removing the transmission.
The clutch release pushrod-- does it come out the rear or the front of the tranny housing.
Reading most of the spine lube tech papers they say be careful to remove the tranny striaght back to avoid bending the rod. That leads me to believe that the pushrod comes out the front. This is uncharted waters for me and I don't want to fubar it.
The longest "alignment" bolts that I could find are (2) 3" and (1) 4 1/4" long. Would they be long enough? or too long.
TIA. _________________ Ride safe.

I learned my answers.
Splines were dry but otherwise look ok.
Now the fun to see how many leftover parts I will discover.
BTW. In the process of disassembly I discoverd/found a stray screw lodged between the clutch actuator arm and the trans housing. You wouldn't/couldn't see it until I took the arm off. It didn't appear to affect the arm operation any that I could tell. But it obviously didn't belong there.
From the looks of it It's been there a looooooong time. I found no empty hole that it would fit into though. It was a recessed torx pan head machine screw. Any thoughts from anyone??? _________________ Ride safe.

The only Torx machine screws on Ks hold the bellhousing to the engine. No way one of those would come out, much less make it to the back ofthe tranny. Probably came from something else.
Unless it's a tiny one - that could come from the Moronic. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Probably some road detritus. Ignore it.
Actually I have no idea, but I wanted to use detritus in a sentence. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I've found stuff up there on my bike as well. I tend to think of it as belly-button lint. _________________ Jade

Just wait until a rock flies up there and leaves you with no clutch at all! _________________ 93 LT (x2)

From memory which is getting a little hazy these days, isn't there a cover or something on the ABSII which has a torx headed bolt? I'm sure there's one somewhere in a gearbox removal so maybe a previous owner dropped one. _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Yes there is a fair sized one that goes into the upper side of the abs II from the rear, but it is about a 3/16 in size whereas this stray one is about the size of a 8/32.
The screws on the Moronic are about a 10/32 and have a tamper torx configuration.
I won't forget about getting rocks lodged down under there either.
From the location, up under the paralever I'm chaulking it up to "belly-button" lint. I don't think it is possible to drop anything from above and have it land up under the paralever, much less behind the clutch arm.
FWIW, I'm still naturally inclined to use non-metric dimentioning descriptors. I'm working on metric but it aint easy. I don't work with it enough. _________________ Ride safe.
