Since my donor RS I bought last summer is/was an SE, it's got those nice shiny chromed forks. I plan to disassemble them, clean them out, drop in some new Race Tech springs I have and put new fork seals in them before I install them on the LT.
They have 60k on them. Aside from the springs and seals, anything else worth replacing them while I'm in there?
Would it make sense to move the 30k cartidges over from my LT? Not thrilled about this idea as those are still in nice shape and I don't really want to pull those forks apart unless there's a compelling reason. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

With all this fork work, if you happen to have a spare stanchion, I need one for my right fork... _________________ M N B

Do you think you're in Europe or sumpin' with all that fancy vocab? Over here call 'em fork tubes or uppers.
FYI: All of the forks I have are in decent shape so my tendency is to selll them in pairs and not part them out. Too much work to get those stupid circlips out too. I dread that task. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

take a look at the bushings - just replaced them on my bike with just under 50,000 miles on it. Bushings might have lasted awhile longer - figured while everything was apart it was worth replacing them. _________________ Jim

I called em that cuz that's what they're called in the parts fiche...
Well, a new fork tube is $300. And I can probably buy a pair of used forks for that, perhaps even less, so.... _________________ M N B

Not really the fork, but the plate which holds the forks together where the brake pipes split could probably do with pulling apart and cleaning/repainting.
Also...When I did my forks recently I could not get the front wheel spindle back in on both sides. Lots of head scratching later I realised that you have to do bolts on the plate (mention above) loosely first, make sure you can get the spindle to fit OK, then bolt up good and tight, well 2nd F torque, as in:
1st F - finger tight
2nd F - fairly tight
3rd F - f***ing tight
Have fun

Even if you could get the axle thourhg with the fork bridge installed first, I don't think you'd want to. I think you want the axle inplace before you put the fork brdge on to ensure proper alignment. (This only applies if you've lossened the frok brdige - not when you're just putting the wheel on and have not messed with the fork bridge. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Drake - check the diameter of the Race Techs - if they're 29mm you'll need to get the flanges on the pistons turned down. The stock springs are 30mm. _________________ Jim
