I finally bit the bullet after watching the coolant form a small puddle under the front of the engine on many an occasion and decided to change the pump over for a recon unit i had sitting on the shelf.
This sort of thing being a fairly simple task as i work on commercials during the day i thought oh' it'l be be a quick job, Famous last words. one of the two long bolts that go through either side of the water pump impeller decided it wasn't going to come undone and just round off the hex key drive ok i thought i'll just drill the head off and then pull the pump over the remaing stud. Not so. It took me about 3 hours of heating, hitting, knocking and resorting to using a slide hammer whick broke away the casing revealing the main cause.
The casting surrounding the kerbside [UK] long bolt had corroded away and the remainder had welded itself onto the bolt. Once i had cut away the casing from the bolt the pump unit came away.
The moral here is to keep an eye on the lower exposed parts before they cause further problems as i now have a smashed up oil pump casting to prove. _________________ Fat Ba***d with a K1100LTse
