Hi I have an intermitent problem with my '96 K11RS. Occasionally it dies on me. The battery is good, the ignition lights come on, but the fuel pump does not make the whirring noise as it primes. Lowering the side-stand with the ignition on, cuts out the guages so I am guessing that the stand switch is working OK. Messing with wires / junctions does not seem to make a difference. The bike usually starts some time later. Last time it happened was only minutes after starting, so I don't think it was overheating. I fear the spirit of Joe Lucas (Prince of Darkness) has emigrated from my Norton Commando. Anyone help?
Thanks. Embarassed

Possibly the wiring connector to the fuel tank.

Most common failure. Test with a load (21watt lamp) not just a meter. Next thing down the line is the fuel pump relay (also a possibility). Also if it has an immobiliser on the alarm, they often fit that in the fuel pump circuit.

Good job Joe Lucas never built an ABS Laughing

I've only had my 95 k1100rs for a few weeks and on occasion it dies while riding it. Usually after a bump in the road. A light tap on the sidestand and all is good.

Sidestand switch is the likely culprit. Easiest fix i've found is to put a piece of small hose over the metal tang the triggers the switch. This makes sure the switch gets engaged. No problem since.

I've shorted my sidestand switch and have the switch trigger a flashing LED in the dash. When my switch was being flaky, that LED drove me nuts and I had to kick the sidestand all of the time until I fixed it.
