Hello all I'm a bit new here been reading from the site for a wile lot's of great info here. Ok now for my Question---> first things first.
I have a 1994 K1100LT it has 17978 miles on the clock, I bought it after a Mad X-Wife took a hammer to the fuel tank and speed-o housing and a few other areas, I got a Killer deal on it, it's all back as it should be but I seem to be having a Problem with my Fuel pump power?? I have replaced the fuel filter and the pump push's the fuel fine if I wire it to 12 volts from the Battery. at first I thought the fuel pump relay was bad bought a new one the bike fired up great but the next time I started it the same problem over again, No Power to the pump I have checked the plug to the fuel tank and checked the wire with an meter and the wires check out fine on both side of the plug. is there something I'm missing here? is there another relay I should check? someone said there where two? but Not found the 2nd one?? any Ideas what I should look for
Thanks for any help

If the sidestand switch is ok then check the throttle position switch.

side stand switch was one of the first tings I checked. question how do I locate the throttle position switch." or TPS? I'm starting to think the plug to the fuel tank is junk? I'm doing the trailer 4 pin plug mod Now soldering on a and using heat shrink over the new splice's I have had the side stand issues with my 07 Vulcan Nomad" the problem is a flakie one it comes and goes on my K-LT" this really bugs me. I'm a first time owner to the Kmodel I had a 50r for years I could fix anything on that bugger LOL.
thanks

Not knowing the other areas that were "hammered" the throttle kill switch, ignition switch, are a couple of other areas to check.

Ride Safe

Replace the fuse - #6

Sometimes the BMW factory fuses can look good even when they aren't.

Replaced the #6 fuse like you said. the factory fuse checked out good on the meter? what amp is it ? I used a 15amp fuse? but it's changed just the same. the Kill switch is in Great shape it was not hammered LOL. I even cleaned the inside contacts yesterday. as sugested in another thread. all seems OK there. the ignition switch didn't get any Damage. still not sure how to find the TPS? or how to check or reset it? the Gal that Hammered this Bike only hit the fuel tank every light on the Bike the speed-O it seems to have got the worst of the damage I replaced the whole Unit, and the Mirror glass"and the Radio was hammered . I unpluged the radio & removed it , bought a new lid for the left glove box to replace the radio.
still wondering if I'll have to trailer it home again I really not wanting to take it to far because it's been so Flakey and could quit on me again

Just my GB 2 pennyworth:- the tank connector is well known as a cause of trouble. Also had a chap recently with same symptoms, traced eventually to an after market immobiliser wired into the fuel pump supply wire. When measured with a meter 12 volts, As soon as the pump was connected, the power disappeared. Moral, always check the feed with a lamp (say 21 watts) as a load & a meter across it. Also check the fuel pump relay.

I found the fuel pump plug was not in very good shape, it looked like someone had been trying to jump power from the left side power socket into the pump plug I replaced the plug with the trailer Flat 4 plug like Duck told me too. so I start the K-l11 up everything is working great take a 4 mile test ride get it home and later I want to take it out again and NO Fuel PUMP power again?? Man this is really bugging me" also I noticed on my test ride a sliping kind of buzz like a spline slipping? when I hit the throttle hard in 2nd gear? Now I wondering if I got something in the Drive screwed up as well, I spent most of the winter with it too cold to work in my Garage so now that it's warmed up I really have been using every spair minute working on this beemer. I'm thinking with it only having 17978 miles on it I would think the Drive and clutch should be in fine shape? but I really have no Idea what the first owner did to it other than His X-wife taking a hammer to it" maybe he did it him self because of the problems it's Now giving me? wouldn't put it past some people to do something like that. the deal of splicing into the power socket on the left side has got me wondering why someone did that? any way at this point I'm getting no power to the fuel pump again.?? I rechecked side stand switch, it was OK" wile riding the test ride the Temp was in the mid reading, also the kill switch checked out good. I did clean it out last week just to make sure that was not the Problem. I did notice the engine idle is low like maybe 500rpm I had to hold a little throttle on to keep it from dieing wile I rode it" Oh and I changed the plugs put in 4163 autolites that sure smoothed out the engine. so I'm back to where I started again> No power to the fuel pump and Confused LOL

Hello Tim
I figured out what the problem was after checking everything on the out side of the fuel tank to find nothing wrong with the power to the fuel tank. well I went back in to the Tank and turned on the Key and just as I touched the power lead to the pump it started working I moved the wire just a little bit and she stopped well the Mistory is over LOL! I'm going for a ride I'll let ya know if she craps out on me again Hope not? Thanks for your help
