As I was riding down the coast today from San Francisco (it sucked - no wind, sunny day, minimal traffic, no CHP) I saw groups of people with binoculars on the side of the road. Once I'd passed the third or fourth group of people, I finally realized they were looking for whales. So I kept an eye out to the ocean while riding and less than a quarter mile later I saw a water spout. So I pulled over and watched the migrating gray whales for about 10 minutes.
They weren't breaching or anything, mostly just water spouts and a couple of them rolling around at the surface. It was still pretty cool though. My antique digital camera (four years old) only has a 2x optical zoom so it was pointless to try to take pictures of whale spouts 250 yards away. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Damn! I had plenty of time to go see them... It's supposed to rain today and by tomorrow, they'll probably be gone.
Whereabouts south of SF was this? Half Moon Bay(ish)? Santa Cruz? Monterey? _________________ M N B

Sometimes I forget how fortunate it is to live near the west coast. _________________ 1993 K1100LT/On going project
