Hi everyone,
I am replacing the brake lines on my 97 K1100RS. Stupidly I forgot to note which way round the short lines go between the 3 way connector thing under the fender/mudguard and the calipers.
On each of the brake lines there is one straight screwed union and one angled banjo union.
My simple question is - what type of hose connection (straight or banjo) do you have at the caliper end?
Thanks

Nope, I did this two weeks ago, so can state absolutely that the angled union is at the caliper, pointing upwards

Hmmm! I have fitted the lines with the straight union going into the 3 way connector but the line rubs on the fender. I am certain this will not happen if I fit the other way round.
Clymers shows the angled banjo connected to the 3 way - but it is not clear whether there is a straight or a banjo union connected to the caliper. I am beginning to think that my supplier was correct when he advised me to send my original hoses to the HEL factory so they could make exact copies as they reckon BMW used whatever parts were lying around when they put the brake hoses together!!
It no clearer when looking at the parts fiches or the official manual _________________ K1100RS Special Edition 1997

hi Tony - if you had sent me those key blanks I needed, I would tell you. JK. ' '
If the RS is the same as the LT, the sharply angled banjo goes on the caliper, pointing up and toward the front. The connectors at the top have a slight angle out to the side. If you need more detail, let me know. _________________ Jim

Thanks again everyone. A photo (Flying Duck) would be much appreciated. I have scoured all the photo's I can find on the internet but to no avail. People tend not to focus (literally) too much on the calipers (understandably) but the more shiny bits! _________________ K1100RS Special Edition 1997

Oh, I focus quite a bit on my brakes.
Glad you found a solution to your problem. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

The LT front mudguard (fender for our colonial cousins) is the worst piece of design I have see in 30 years of fettling bikes.
The rear section is a 'crap-catcher', and directs all the mud, salt and grit into the calipers, which are 75% shrouded.
Most LTs I have seen have replaced the velcro fastner with something more permanent (cable-tie, nut/bolt), and that is the root of the problem.
Here in the UK, you need to wash a winter hack at least once a week, and the rear section of the front fender should be removed every 4-6 weeks. The calipers should be flushed with clean water, then the pad-pin and hose unions lighly greased to prevent corrosion.
A shame that the PO on my bike didn't follow these simple steps _________________ C1 200 (2001)

Which is why I replaced the huge, ugly-assed "shroud" LT front fenders with a set from an RS.
I just did my front brakes today, and holy Christ that pin was corroded. Some fine emery paper and lithium grease and was good as new.
Brake flush/bleed and wow what a difference in lever feel. They are actually a bit "grabby" and very sensitive, something I am still getting used to. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Checking the fiche sites, the 'front half' of the front fender is common to RS and LT.
There are several LT breaking on eBay UK, whilst RS are like hens teeth.
I think that some masking tape and a dremel cutting disk should solve the problem, for under £5 _________________ C1 200 (2001)
