Last year I suggested a birthday gift (kind of half-heartedly): The Long Way 'Round DVD. My wife said sarcastically "Yeah, right. Sounds like fun. Fourteen hours of motorcycle video." I think she then figured out that pretty-boy Ewan McGregor was in it. I was quite surprised to actually receive the DVD set. I was more surprised when my wife got into it even more than I did! She watched it a second time (when I wasn't around), bought and read the book, and followed their progress on-line when they took another trip through Africa last spring/summer.
So this year, I asked for the Long Way Down DVD. I believe it ran on British TV last fall, but didn't realize it was not yet available on DVD here in the US. But, lo and behold, I received the sequel as a gift! Turns out she found a way to order it from Belgium. She really is quite a gal...
So far we have watched the first three of six episodes. Good stuff. Not to give too much away, but we discover that even Öhlins have their limits. Turns out that rough terrain and 44° C takes its toll... _________________ tlp

Personnally I struggled to watch the long way down. It didn't have the adventure spirit anymore - I mean when you have support crews, medical staff, fixers in each country, security for taking a leak and a million dollar budget where's the adventure? I found it too much like McGregor's own sales pitch for his own ego. I liked Boorman though I think he's genuine.
Just my view so ignore it! _________________ 1980 CB900FA

Beats me. It IS a bit of a rich man's folly.
We haven't gotten to the part where Eve McGregor is supposed to ride along (don't spoil it!). But if she does, c'mon - what was he thinking? _________________ tlp
