So do you do annual things at end or begining of the season?

So, weather in the high 60's rode the bike to work first time this year, we've had our couple of weeks of winter and now spring has sprung.

A neighbor at work chatted about seasonal oil changes, IE. once a year if you don't do the milage in a year. His logic was to do them att he beginning of the riding season, so that anything that drained into the engine over the "winter" was drained out and fresh oil goes in before starting.

My logic is end of season, based on weather and work, I did an oil change just before Thanksgiving, and just under 2 months later rode the bike several times over the three day weekend. My thought is that any moisture or contaminants in the sump get drained out before they cause corrossion during the set up period.

I know many of you have many months of no riding, due to weather, so do you do an oil change at the end of the season, the begining, or both?

End of Season. Winter can be long in MN. I think the oil looks good after sitting 3-4 months in the bike in the spring.

Right about now. Been about 1-1/2 months since the last run and the bike is now on the lift for annual maintenance.

This one is going to be a big one since I'm replacing all the hoses. Don't know when (if?) they were replaced. Shocked

Sad Sad Sad

Good morning all…

Well… just like Carp in MN, it is usually the first of April before I can even get to the bike(s) to prepare for the coming season.. and since I like to stretch riding as long as possible before the COLD shuts it down, its always "beginning" of the season fluid changes etc for me. SugarHill has a heated garage and a lift to get his bikes ready for the Spring. So unless your somewhere where its 60 degF in January or have a heated storage/work area, its probably going to be "beginning of season" for you too !

Good luck… ride safe….// Ernie in NH

Same thing here in GA. Have been on the bike at least 7 times since Thanksgiving...Not like I'm rubbing it in or anything Laughing

For the topic at hand however, I change mine at the beginning of the year...scheduled in a few weeks.

Hmmm, I am here in snowy Pa, we had snow yesterday as a matter of fact. I have had both of my bikes out recently though, cold doesn't bother me much. Typically I do twice a year. In the summer I run a heavier weight oil so I typically change over to that in late April-mid May. In the colder months I run a lighter weight, so that goes in Late September early October.

Here is a couple of pics from the ride I took the Sunday after Thanksgiving:

Cold? Yes about 30 degrees when I left, warmed up to a balmy 40 though. Roads were in decent shape, but lots of gravel at the intersections, just had to be careful.

I think this weekend I'm going to at least get one of the bikes on the lift and get ready to start the spring service.
