I've searched the site and can't find the answer, so here's a question:
From a design standpoint, why is there no gasket on the timing chain cover? Mine has the "weeps," so I've removed it to replace the sealant. The fiche doesn't show a gasket for my model, so now I'm curious. Seems like there should be a gasket for at least the top and bottom of the cover. _________________ "Some things I know, some things I don't"

Nope. The Germans are so perfect at machining that a gasket would just add extra weight. They just use a sealant.
But the cover for the Hall Effect sensor has a gasket - go figure.
When I replaced the bellhousing on my K75RT, I used normal gasket sealent and it seemed to work fine. I'd ask the guys at your local dealer what to use. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks Duck. I have some Permatex Ultra Grey which should work. Speaking of the Hall Effect sensor gasket...I'm sure its the original, but it looks fine. OK to reuse it? _________________ "Some things I know, some things I don't"

I think you will get the best seal from removing the valve and crank covers. That way you can seal the camchain cover and then put a little sealant on the split lines between the camchain cover and the head/engine block. Don't forget the split lines between the bellhousing and engine case on the right side. It's a lot of work, but the results from a good job are no seeping/leaking.
