I am doing my major winter maintenance this week. Changing oils, flushing brake systems, replacing coolant, replacing fuel filter, putting LEDs in the instrument cluster, etc.

While emptying the residual fuel out of my tank today I discovered a rubberish (maybe actually neoprene) cylindrical solid piece loose in the bottom of the tank. It's about 3 inches long about the diameter of a pencil. It has a full length slot in it cut to the center.

I am guessing it goes somewhere on the fuel level float arm, that's about the size of the slot. I may have knocked it off when I replaced the fuel filter yesterday.

Does anyone know where on the float arm it might go? I can't find it in any of my maintenance manuals or on the ETK parts diagrams.

Mystery solved!

There are two of these little beasties!

There is a box shaped bulkhead inside the tank that the fuel pump mounts on. It is open on the left next to the tank outer skin. These things cover the exposed vertical edges going between the edge and the tank skin. One behind the pump and one in front of it. You can just barely see the front one around the fuel pump, the fuel line to it and all of the piping inside and Naturally that was the one that had come off. I couldn't get my hand around it and had to enlist the help of my spousal unit. She has smaller hands and is very understanding about my various projects.

I guess that makes them isolation mounts? I never did see anything documenting their existance.
