I just got a Corbin Dual Tour seat off of ebay for my 96 K11Lt and have a couple of questions for those who have more experience with these seats than I do.

It is a Dual Tour seat KDT86. It is comfortable and I like the riding position but the fit on the bike is not as nice as with the stock pan. This seems to be off by a lot in how it fits against the tank and the back tail cowl. I have the 92 mounting brackets and the side to side fit is good. Is there a difference in the dimensions of an older k and the the 96 to cause it not to fit or is the configuration of an RS that much different than an LT. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you're replacing a stock seat then you probably need to get the two hinge parts from an earlier K. (The newer hinges have about a third of an inch of rubber on them, the earlier ones don't.)

Once you have that taken care of, additional fine tuing of the fit can be resolved by loosening everthitng up and adjusting.

Loosen the following items:

1) The seat bar that holds the rear hinge down

2) The rear hinge on the underside of the seat

3) The middle hinge under the seat

4) The rod that sticks down - both bolts that hold it to the seat

Now you can wiggle things around to get the seat in the right place and gradually tighten down all of the mounting hardware.

Note: Sometimes it may get caught in the seat latch. IF it does get stuck and you can't get it out then you don't need to break the lock to get your seat open. You can undo the mounting bolts the hold the seat latch to the frame with an 8mm box wrench. It's a bit tricky but better than breakign things.

FYI: I have a Corbin Dual Sport on my 94 RS and the fit is pretty good.

It still won't fit perfectly. I think there were minor body changes in the later models. You should be able to get it to fit pretty well, though.

Hmm. Is your '96 Black and Silver? If so, we have the same bike. Smile

After having never seen another just like it in the 11 years since I bought it, I've seen 2 on the road this year. One of em was actually parked NEXT to mine at work. Turns out a VP in a business a couple buildings down spotted it and wanted to make sure we chatted. He's the one that turned me on to this forum.

Mine is Aspen Silver. I have yet to see a silver and black bike in person though I have seen them in pictures. I like the two color contrast and when it is time to paint it I might have it done in that.

Well I tweaked the seat and got in sitting evenly on the frame but it still seems short front to back. Is this normal for this seat on an LT?

i have tried 1 stock... 1 corbin dual canyon... 3 russells... all on a 94k1100rs... all of them have had a tight fit in front against the rubber tank bumpers and a tight fit in back against the rear cowl...

this is what i did... the seat pans had round rubber bumpers spaced the length of the seat that rode on the frame rails... i removed these as well as the round rubber bumpers on both sides of the rear hinge piece... this allowed for them to fit snug on the frame rails which was made it tight against the rubber tank bumpers and a tight fit in back against the rear cowl...

i also experimented with shimming with foam tape between the frame rails and the seat pan looking for the perfect angle... i found that about 1/4 inch of shimming tape under the riders seat frame rails would lift the front off the rubber tank bumpers just about like your photo...

basically i got the older k hinges... with no rubber bumpers on hinges or seat pan... have small pieces of foam tape between frame rails and seat pan for vibration and such... and all is well...

im thinking its either tweaked or its just gonna take some more fussing with...

Speaking of silver & black bikes - here is my 96 RS special edition. Repainted of course. Rear wheel is now black too.

Seat is a stock pan rebuilt by Sargent.

Eagle eyes may notice the "Laminar Lip" ( Not much difference ), bar backs, and "RBR" light bar w/ PIAA somethings.

My Corbin, despite best attempts, didn't fit my 95 11LTSE with solid hinges properly. It's just as bad on my 97 LTSE with the rubber ones Exclamation

But I still wouldn't go back the the German offering, laughingly called a "comfort seat"

That is one sweet ride there mate.

Love the black wheels, I did mine black a while ago and loved every second of the look. The maintenance is worlds easier too.

Well I took off the the round bumpers as suggested and it fits better but still not right. Originally I took a dual seat off of a 1991 k100Lt removed the cover and foam off of my comfort seat and replaced it with the 91 cover and foam. I had to cut down some of the foam to fit it in the 96 pan since the bottom of the the 91 pan extends farther down. It fit well and comfortable but I found myself sliding forward so I wanted to try the corbin. I may have to go the Sargent route also. If you look at the dual seat it has a nice pocket for your butt more along the lines for the corbin than the original seat that came with the bike.
