So I went to replace my fork seals today and the right fork went smoothly, but the left fork tube won’t pull out of the lower half. I made sure the bolt is out of the bottom and just ended up taking the fork seal out with the fork tube still in. But now I have a round metal shim around the fork tube that came from somewhere and i can’t even push it back in far enough to get the bolt back in the bottom. What am I doing wrong here? Any help is really appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like the brass slider wear "bushing" came loose from either the top or bottom.
The bottom one attaches on the chrome slider, and the top one is internal to the stanchion.
It's possible you deformed it and if so, best to just replace it.
It's not a bad idea to replace both while you have the fork apart. They are designed to be the "wear point" and like bearings on a crankshaft.
Max BMW lists them around $42 each.
