Friends,

I picked this up for $30 from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDDHXRN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just started testing it.
Had it up and running within 30 seconds & it works like a charm.

I will post problems (if any).

Sanjiv

Pretty cool that you can adapt 50 year old technology to work with Bluetooth.

I wonder if they could use the kinetic energy turning the take-up reel to generate power so you don't have to charge it. It'd have to fit inside of a cassette housing though - which might be a challenge.

Drake,

It has a built in battery and comes with a micro-USB charger port. My plan is to use the cigarette lighter to power the USB so it should be able to run continuously.

I'll post back if there is a problem with this.

So enough of the side is exposed to have the micro USB plugged in while it's "playing?"

Do you power the micro USB cable with a cig lighter adapter?

I got a bluetooth radio unit for $20 at Best Buy. Simply tune the radio to an empty radio station and connect it to your phone. Since then I have decided to go a different direction and use in helmet speakers. Works with both my GPS and phone for tunes.

Sorry for the delay. I was on a biz trip to Europe. First international trip in 2yrs!

Back to your questions....
I am able to use the cigarette lighter for charging via the microUSB while the cassette is in the cassette player (in the initial position where it is loosely in the player but not pushed all the way in)

It is NOT possible to charge while playing. When I push the cassette in (downwards) it also wants to move laterally to fall "in place" for the playing position. The USB cord prevents it from doing that.

However, I don't think this is a big deal. Once charged the cassette plays for hours. Charging is pretty quick too so you can do that at gas/coffee stops.

So.... for everyday riding (few hours at a time) this is an ideal inexpensive solution. I would recommend this product.

Sanjiv

P.S. If I'm playing music via my phone *and* using the GPS directions then the music will get interrupted while Siri/Alexa barks directions at me to make a turn. Once I've made my turn it goes back to music.

Friends,

I ran a test on the fully charged bluetooth cassette adapter in my garage. It ran for over 8 hrs continuously on its rechargeable battery without any power cord connected.

So I think the battery life is also a non-issue.

Nice! Sounds good in more ways than one.

Never had a bike that could have any installed sound system, so I am going by what you LT folks post.

I found this one on AiiExpress for my car for $10.93.

The cassette adapter is better and easier to use than my prior setup which was a BT receiver that plugs into a cig lighter socket and broadcasts on an unused FM frequency.
