BMW K1100, 1993.
Running fine last week and snapped the clutch cable. Made it home Without issues. Installled a new clutch cable and now the fuel pump no longer works. Pump itself is fine and pumps when 12v is applied out of the bike. Is there some sort of safety that prevents the pump from turning? What should I be measuring at the 4-pin connector outside of the tank? Side stand is in, fuses all ok. Clutch is not required for cranking....close to setting it on fire! _________________ “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! Check/recheck the side stand switch. they can and do fail.
Also check your kill switch on the handlebar, if you don't regularly cycle the switch it can cause issues. _________________ Ride safe.

It may be that when you disturbed the tank to replace the clutch cable, this was enough to damage the power connection. Connecting the pump to an alternative power source will not show this fault.
The main suspect for me is the 4 pin connector. This connector is not very robust and the pins can detach from the sealed internal connecting wire. As you have had to move the tank and presumably disconnect the connector, almost certainly here lies your problem. If the other switches such as the one on the stand or kill switch were working before you started the work, those giving the problem is very unlikely
They are all the same on K75/K100 and K1100 bikes and on one of my K75's it failed just like this. The easiest way to rectify this was a 3rd party accessory 4 pin connector because the section of the plug not connected to the tank is part of the main wiring loom and cannot be replaced with a BMW item unless the whole loom is replaced. The plug is a sealed unit on both ends and cannot be repaired. The plug has to be cut off and replaced with the after-market connector. You may have to extend the wires on the lower part of the loom. I hope this helps. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

Not true, if the bike is not in neutral-- you will need the clutch switch working. _________________ Ride safe.

That's probably correct, never tried starting it while in gear.
In the mean time the problem got solved.
Issue was a combination of a bad side stand switch which I took out of the equation and a bad contact in the 4-pin connector to the tank. _________________ “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow!
