My K11 has developed a weird habit. Sometimes the windshield motor works perfectly, sometimes it does absolutely squat. No rhyme, reason or pattern. Any idea where i should look first?

Can you hear the relay's click, up in behind the dash panel?
If not, I'd clean the contacts on the up/down switch.

I have never been able to hear a relay click., even when it works.

The thread is VERY good for diagnostics.
With a sometimes works / sometimes not windshield operation on my '97 K1100LT, I just went and bought:

Item # Description Qty
REL-415 Relay - Installing Set Windshield / Various - BMW R Oilhead & K; 61 36 1 393 415 / Tyco 2
Thank you for your order from Euro MotoElectrics!

I have no connection to EME other than that was the best price at the time. Solved my issue.

HTH. Have fun,
Jer

First thing I'd do is make sure that the switch is in good condition. here's how to rehab the switch:

I've read that that item works really well.
