Since I don't like having to hold up the bike from going sideways with just the tips of my toes, I have ordered a Wilbers replacement shock https://www.wilbers.de/produkte/federbeinprodukte/ecoline/o-36-mm/article-58.html custom built for me and my riding patterns, with a 30mm reduction in length from the stock shock. That's 1.2 inches, which should work fine for the length of my legs. It's also got quite a few adjustments, which I will have to refine over time.

Anyone have experience with this product? I ordered the base 530 model. [/url]

I've noticed that your seat can affect your footing as well.

I have 1 LT(Ohlins shock) with a Russel Day Long, and I basically have to tip-toe the bike while sitting on the seat. Yet on my 2nd LT(Realm shock) I have a Corbin and I can flat foot the bike while sitting on the seat.

Is the Corbin seat the reason why you can flat foot it? Or is it the shock?

It's the seat. It is shaped differently at the front compared to the Russel, or a stock seat.

Another thing you can do is get the seat foam trimmed by the thighs.

Or wear these:

And here I thought I had seen all the colors that have seen daylight. Is that from the Ray Charles line of clothing? That's worse than wearing a Hawaiian shirt to a Mormon church... Laughing

Got it. I'm going to install this Wilbers shock first and see how it works out. I am hoping it will also help with getting on the bike in the first place, since I can't swing my legs as high as when I interned with Bruce Lee (as one of those "HaHa!" punching bags). Laughing

I got my new Wilbers lowered rear shock (with 30mm adjustment) but it came with some unexpected, and some not-so-unexpected notes, on a single page.

One note says the headlight angle needs to be adjusted down so I don't glare drivers coming in my direction. That makes sense.

But it also says the front fork springs need to be swapped out to lower the front. Anybody ever do this? Which springs to I need to order? I have an appt with my mechanic next week, don't know if I will have time to order the new fork springs.

Don't know on K1100s but what many do on K75/K100s using a short shock is drop the fork trees down the forks a bit.

Jack the front of the bike up.

Loosen the pinch bolts that hold the forks in the fork trees.

Push the forks up in the fork trees.

Tighten the pinch bolts.

Let the jack down.

You've just lowered the front of the bike.

(might be easier if you take the wheel and fork brace off before sliding the forks up)

The bike is in the shop now to finish all the work that it needed; new sparks, air filter and fuel filter, install the shock, lower the front and adjust the headlight, he will also be checking a couple of other things, and when I get the correct flasher relay I'll take that to him so he can finish the 2 year German inspection. Then I will replace the instrument cluster with the one that has MPH and KM and it will be ready to send to the US when we move back, which hopefully will be soon...

Today i got the bike back from the shop. The Wilbers didn't lower it as much as I expected but...

1. It is much easier to get my feet on the ground.
2. I need to shorten the side stand as per the instructions.
3. The center stand is a little harder to extend.

On a K1100LT there are spacers between the mounting bracket for the center and side stands and the bottom of the transmission. You can remove those and the center and side stands will work better with a lowered rear end.

If that lowers it too much then you can add some M10 washers to fine tune the distance between that bracket and the transmission.

If you remove the spacer from between the stand mount and transmission, move the spacer on the other side of the stand mount so the mount is in direct contact with the transmission. The spacer will act as a "washer" between the stand mount and the bolt head, and allow you to use the same bolts.... otherwise you may have to find shorter bolts.

Or just cut 10mm off with a grinder.

Good ideas, but for all that I need a lift, and I don't have one. I live in an apartment with nothing but street parking.

You don't need a lift if you have someone who will sit on the bike and hold it vertical.

Not really, all you need is just a friend(or something else) to help hold the bike upright.
