Hi Guys & Girls.

I have just replaced my final drive on my 1992 1100lt.There now appears to be 2 or 3 mm play on the rear shock, ie the final drive will move up and down with the rear shock on the stud, with out the nut and washer in place. with the nut and washer in place every thing is tight but I cant help thinking on the road there's still room for the shock and final drive to "rattle" around. its definitely the stud moving inside the shock, the shock bush seems fine. its an YSS aftermarket job.

Some history
I had the rear shock replaced with the current YSS, & about 15000 kilometres later the bottom shock stud failed, snapped clean off. im guessing it sheared because of the play in the mounting.

There should not be that much play.
Should only be enough to slide the shock on/off of the stud.

I measured a stock shock and the internal diameter of the end bushing inserts was 12.2mm

I measured a Fox brand and it was 12.1mm

I'd suggest you measure the lower stud and compare to the upper bolt, they should be the same. Then compare them to the shock inserts.

BMW parts listings show both upper and lower mounts use a 12mm bolt/stud.

hi Scott thanks for the reply. turns out the whole bush / bearng is shot so i'll replace both ends.
