I own a 93 K1100RS. My rear master froze up. I called the dealer to
order a rebuild kit. The dealer told me I have to buy a new master cyl.
as kits are not available for 12mm master cyl. rear's Does anyone know
of a kit that would work. I know of a shop in NY that can bore out a master
cyl. and sleeve it with a brass sleeve. I did it for my 74 R90S 10 years ago.

Thank you Bob D

Did you overtighten the pedal adjustment?

What can happen is that if you have the brake pedal adjusted too tightly when you apply the brake it can push the piston back far/hard enough to get stuck on the set screw.

Have you tried loosening the set screw? (The tiny screw in the side of the master.)

Figure out WHY it locked up before spending money.

Not anymore...

Complete MC assemblies are also sold out and not available.

Here's the reason:

DUE TO THE RECENT LAWSUIT BROUGHT BY BMW AGAINST MAGURA, ONCE OUR CURRENT STOCK OF MAGURA PRODUCTS IS GONE WE WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO SELL ANY BMW SPECIFIC MAGURA PRODUCTS.

Mine froze up a few yrs ago.
It was oxidation of alloy.
As far as I recall I just cleaned it out and new seals.
Motorworks in UK
Otherwise Moto Bins or Sherlocks

Bob - if you have to buy a new cylinder (and you might), be sure to check prices at Motorworks. https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=40&Ct=IA&SbCt=BA_15_40_IA_45

Right now the rear master cylinder is about $177 plus shipping from Motorworks (not an exorbitant price). At Max BMW it's $262 (an extortionist price). Also note that Motorworks has a repair kit for that master cylinder - about 71 USD.

Parts are often cheaper from the UK, shipping isn't that much, and Motorworks ships pretty fast. I've bought a lot of stuff from them.

Agreed! I recently purchased the Motorworks repair kit for my rear master. Also picked up some "0000 steel wool" (per SmithDuck) to "lightly" clean the bore before putting it back together. It's now the end of the season and no issues so far.

Gentlemen, as part of a rebuild of mu '93 RS, I too repaired the rear brake master cylinder, after seeing the price of genuine BMW parts, I measured the seals and purchased identical dimension parts from a local parts supplier. From memory they are Ford parts. Seals were less than A$1.00 each, postage from the interstate warehouse was A$14.00. Been running now for over 12 months without issue.

Good work Paul ,more than one way to skin that cat. Have done my rear master, steel wool and new seals. The front master was problematic for seals as it had previously been sleeved. A visit to the brake guru in Gympie fixed that for five bucks, standard imperial dimension bucket.
