|
|
| I'm installing a full set of SS brake lines on my 1997 K11LTand have all of them installed except the one from the front master cylinder to the union at the end of that line. Does anyone have any advice on replacing that line? TIA. |

Did it recently.
Didn't have any issues.
Found cleaning muck from around union a nuisance. _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |

I found it easier having the fuel tank pulled back for easier access. _________________ Ride safe.

Ditto, remove the fuel tank. Amazingly bleeding was easy when I did it. Just filled the system with fluid and turned the bars until the master cylinder was at its highest position and most of the air found its own way out over a day or two.

Remove the fuel tank, separate the wiring harness that covers the union, and a few inches back from that union is a metal clamp that hols the lines down, remove that to get some slack in it.
As above it was one of the easiest systems to bleed I ever worked on, probably because the lines were new and wide open. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Got it done. Moved all of the electrical crap out of the way, took of the clamp on the hard lines and the rest was easy. Bleeding wasn't too bad. Bled from ABS unit, then calipers and back to ABS a couple of times and had a decent lever. I put a ty-wrap on the front lever and a day later I've got an (almost) full lever. Thanks again for all of the advice. I hate working on things, I'd much rather RIDE! |

The union on mine is in front of radiator so no need to lift tank.

The connection for the line to the front calipers is over/in front of the radiator. The connection for the master to the ABS modulator is under the tank on the left side. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

There's a "soft" line that comes out of the master cylinder that's joined under the left front tank to a metal line that goes the rest of the way to the ABS control unit under the seat.

I only got around to doing line from front master cylinder.
It's about 40mm shorter than original, as far as I can figure.
Didnt realise until I had it all connected and was checking movement
of handlebars.

Hi
I got goodridge lines too and the lengths were a little odd.
One of the lines that goes to the caliper was a little shorted than the other. Thought that was a bit weird.
Always been happy with goodridge lines before but these dont seem to be quite so good.
The one under the tank was a nightmare for me. Even with the tank out of the way there was so little room to move the spanner.
And that line for me was also little shorter than the old one. _________________ Be gentle it's my first time (owning a BMW) |

This is embarrassing. ....
I got on to Motorworks and told them line was short.
They were all eager to sorg ghe problem.
I gave them length of old line.
New one arrived, matched old one on the bench.
I took out new one and put in replacement.
I was taking a break from rummaging under tank and decided to compare
the one I took out with old one. They were same.
I haven't put tank back on yet.
It seems better. Maybe I took a different route with it.
I meant to tie a string on original before I took it out in
order to follow same route putting in new one!!!
I mailed thdm and confessed.
Haven't heard back yet.
Maybe they are calculating the price of my stupidity _________________ 1994 K1100 LTSE + Blackbird |

Several years ago 7,8, 9 I don't remember I ordered a kit from Speigler for my '96 K11RS and the lengths were wrong. A couple them were way wrong.
I don't know if they, Speigler, ever sorted out that issue and corrected the listed specs in their database. _________________ 1996 K1100RS, 1976 CB750A, 2017 Triumph Trophy, 2020 R1250RT, 2022 RE Classic 350 |
