|
|
Hi Guys & girls. My 93 K1100lt ignition switch first showed signs of impending doom by not turning off at 35000 kilometers. This happend 3 times over the next 10000 kilometers. Resoveld by working the key repeatedly through all positions. Then one day after about another 10000 kilometers the bike went electrically dead, apart from the clock, whilst in motion. After a few hours of diagnosis i found pulling up on the bottem of the ignition switch brought it back to life, when you stopped pulling the electics went off. Bike is now hot wired. Switch seems to physically operate ok.
Question? Should i replace the whole ignition or just the electrical part. Any tips or advise on any of this greatfully recieved as i believe the fairing is going to be coming off for this repair.

Hello gentlemen.
Flying duck. The milage quoted is over a few months, some weeks riding every day some weeks only riding a couple of days or so. Thanks for your comment.
Al. Thanks for the link, very helpful.
Everyone. The fairing bracket has failed just below the top mounting bolts. Cracked / split across under the bolt that holds it to the steering head.
Has any one had this and made a repair. I'm fairly certain the whole bracket will have to be replaced. Any suggestions/recommendations gratefully received.

You could check the price for a new one, but I wouldn't be surprised if your shipping costs more than having a local welder try and fix it for you....
These brackets are becoming harder to find, new or used(in good shape). _________________ Ride safe.

Not too uncommon for the LT main bracket to fail which is why it's not a good idea to go offroading on them or ride excessively potholed streets. _________________ 93 LT (x2)
