after reading and attempting all the suggested ideas and a youtube video
HOW IN THE HELL are you to replace the air filter
between all the cables and the frame its self. i am unable to get any movement in the cover let alone enough clearance to replace the filter in the housing ..
thanks _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |

Yes it is a bit of a struggle.
Firstly have you removed all FOUR of the retaining clips? They are not readily visible and you have to poke about with a thin screwdriver and a torch to see them all. There is not a lot of room and you have to persevere.
Once they are loosened all the clips, you have to do is lift the top cover up a little, enough to get the filter off the groove on the lower half and extract the filter itself. THe clips can fall out of the tiny slots and can be a bit of a swine to get back. A pair of fine nose pliers is a boon to hold them until they snap into place. Some fit onto the lower half and some to the upper.......you just need to be careful.
Replacement is a direct reverse of the removal but make sure the recessed grove is in the bottom position. There is usually a molded arrow to show you anyway.
Once it is inserted between the two halves pusing it into place until the filter drops into place, then just reconnect all the clips - job done. _________________ 1997 K1100LT

As Inge pointed out, only 3 clips.
I replaced one for someone a few weeks ago and found that spraying the channels of the new filter with silicone lubricant helped it slide in easier. (Wish I'd thought of that a few years ago.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

When I did mine, I thought you had to actually open the thing, but the filter is actually part of the housing. You lift the top straight up, and then lift and pull the filter and it slides out. Was very intuitive to me, I struggled for 30 minutes before I got it figured out. _________________ 2014 R1200RT Water Cooled

Sorry quite correct but as one is so hidden it can be easy to overlook it and you will struggle _________________ 1997 K1100LT
