Pretty much the same as the 8V K.
The one thing that's a bit different is that some K1100s tend to rattle a little at idle. (Most likely the timing chain.) But "they all do that" and it's nothing to worry about.
(My 94 RS does this but my 93 LT doesn't.) _________________ 93 LT (x2)

how about monoveler vs paraveler?
i had lube k100s splines every 15K, and i had no problem until i sold it with almost 100k.Is the paraveler unit durable?
i hear also that 16v models are more economical on fuel than their predesedors |

Spline wear is not an issue for the paralever - which is part of the reason for its design. You can just lube the drive shaft splines every 40K which is the recommended interval from the clutch splines so you have to pull everything apart for that anyhow.
There are occasional issues of U-joints blowing up on K11s though. Not a huge issue, but possible.
Fuel consumption is about the same, maybe a little better. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

To add to what Drake posted, it seems like we are seeing some driveshaft U joint problems cropping up at about 100,000 miles. Not across the board but some of us have. (like I did last month )
I ride a '92 K100RS which was a bit of an intermediate step for the K100/1100 series. It has all the running gear of a K1100 but with a 1000cc engine and the bodywork of the K100. It was produced from '90 to '92.
At about 100,000 miles, I have replaced both U joints and the water/oil pump plus changed over to braided stainless brake lines. I am also in the process of changing out all the rubber bits (coolant hoses, intake tract, etc) since the bike is 25 years old now.
But overall it has been pretty economical for a bike I bought 7 years ago for $3500 with about 30,000 miles on it at the time.
Good luck with your decision! _________________ John & Cathy

As long as you do a valve clearance check and keep the oil changed on a regular basis, and ride the living piss out of it-- it will last a loooong time.
Any brick motor will be more prone to burned valves than blown head gaskets. And the burned valves will be the result of not checking the cam lobe clearance, and not riding it hard. The power band for the 16v motors is between 4000 and 5000 rpms. They sing in that range. _________________ Ride safe.
