OK folks- I've had time to order (lightly) used parts. As of today my K100RS is back together. It should be off the lift tomorrow and it will be wearing new tires.

But in the meantime I have added something new to the fleet.

Remember the Daytona? Well so will I, but it was a busy day yesterday-Friday- and something has now replaced its spot in the garage.

a 2009 R1200RT- a Hexhead.

And yes- while at the dealer (MaxBMW) the salesman offered to swop out the stock seat for the Russell on a 2010 RT- a "Camhead" I test rode.

So Cathy and I did a 150 mile ride today and when we left it was mid 50s. Cathy just turned the seat heater up to full while I raised the windshield and had my seat up to 1/2 way. The Russell is still fugly but less so on a fugly bike like this.

We are now an official K and R bike home. (BTW, this thing is comfortable, and the bags SEAL!)

Can HM11 live through having a modern R bike attend?

Shocked Very Happy

This isn't one of those bikes that is prone to the FD blowing out is it?

Been reading up on the FD topic Scott. Paul Glaves has some really good input about that topic and some excellent suggestions.

There are also fuel strip (sending unit) issues.

Oh, and ESA faults. And ignition key ring failures.

And ????

It is a BMW. Would we expect any different? Shocked Embarassed Very Happy

BUT it is fun- and SWMBO (Cathy) really likes it much better as a passenger. Need I say more?

Done.

Absolutely.

To paraphrase some comedian- If your wife isn't happy, you aren't going to be happy. And if she is unhappy long enough you are going to be unhappy with half your stuff. Laughing

Besides now I will set up the K100 as a dedicated 1-up ride. Very Happy Very Happy

Happy all around.

Great looking Buick..oh crap, I meant Bike Embarassed Embarassed With that RDL seat you guys will be able to ride for hours in perfect comfort. My R100S has an RDL. Truly an all day seat.

You will have fun learning new maintenance procedures; there are videos that pretty well describe everything you need to know. I learned my R-GS procedures pretty quickly.

Enjoy the ride.

I already sent away for Jim von Baden's dvds and a few years ago I owned a boxer cup so no huge surprizes. And this RT doesn't have whizzy brakes

Well......

The driveshaft I bought from England was in very good condition.

But the first FD I bought off eBay made some very interesting sounds when I took the bike out for a short shakedown. There is something very wrong with the crown gear bearing- the noise was in sync with every full rotation on the rear wheel so I could rule out the new-to-me driveshaft.

Then a few days later Scott Anderson just happens to PM me asking if I still needed a FD since there was one advertised on the Motobrick forum. Got in touch with the seller and it is now on my K-RS and I am back on the road. Thanks Scott!

Great to get back out on the RS. Very Happy
